I like his chances of contributing better than the Fi/Oturu/Stone type of bigs we usually draft because of how mobile and versatile he is defensively.

"With a 7'3" wingspan, Diabate posted the second-highest vertical reach at the NBA draft combine (12'2"). His shuttle run (2.90 seconds) and max vertical jump (36.5 inches) also turned heads."
---
if he's fleet of foot enough to switch and defend SF types... what's the comp? early Jae Crowder / PJ Tucker before they could shoot, but bigger?

Re: Welcome Moussa Diabate
Really like Moussa's potential on offense as well:
some handles; floor spacer potential; aside from the expected dunks and easy baskets around the paint; some slashing ability. Love his energy on blocks and dunks.
Will be very interesting to see how he goes over the next 2-3 years.
Really glad the team picked him, I thought he would of been gone by then, 43.

I wouldn't say he's like Tucker or Crowder, but more like in the mold of a Kenyon Martin "type" of PF (not a decent jumpshooter yet but the will is there to be one). Energy, rangy, athletic PF, on both ends with decent offensive versatility potential.
Should be a terrorizing defender in time, and if he gets some legit minutes will no doubt show these flashes on defense. He has good confidence.
He'll be able to play some three on defense legitimately though on a regular basis, as he is used to defending on the wing and perimeter; takes the challenge defensively against scorers out on the wing.

Hopefully he can become a capable multiple-position NBA defender sooner than later, that's how he'll stick and maybe even be impactful for us. Looks DeAndre raw on offense, that's fine if he becomes a good defender. He could probably become a good rim runner with his energy and spring.

Some stuff I'm reading on The Athletic infers that both LAC and Diabate's side agree that he's a developmental pick and that he'll be happy to take a 2-Way... so that fits into some of the general roster spot crunch picture (if not specifically about Scrubb)

Can't blame Scrubb though, third year, he has the tools, needs the time.

Scrubb can't stay healthy and I was one of his biggest supporters to see him do well. This past season was a major year for him to make some kind of mark with all our injuries and Covid running rampant but he got hurt yet again and only had small flashes when he did play. Not sure if he deserves a regular deal as of right now. We didn't make any trades plus now we got a whole new round of summer league and newer players trying to get some shine and he hasn't even separated himself from the pack like how a Brandon Boston has. We'll see.
As for Moussa Diabate, I'm rooting for him. They say he has a high motor and can defend multiple positions so Lets Go!!

DJ could never shoot a jumper- looks like Diabate has a decent jumper for his size

Re: Welcome Moussa Diabate
I like this pick very much.
Athletic, energetic, enough physical attributes to play 4-5, switchable and don't hesitate to play physically, a type of player who is definitely not in the squad.

Re: Welcome Moussa Diabate
People who know far better and scout high school players for a living talked and talk positively about Diabate's upside. He's not like other recent big men we've drafted like Kab or Oturu in the sense that those guys were more finished; they could (and did/do) dominate sometimes against G-League teams. The difference between a .280 hitter in AAA that's figuring things out, and a .280 hitter that can hit AAA pitching is huge. The first guy may have lesser stats, but is figuring out to play adequately at the next level. The second guy has topped out more. Seems like scouts think that Diabate has a good motor and attitude, and is figuring things out as he grows fully into his body. He's the type of a guy a two-way contract is made for.

Sadly there's also a genetic component to injury proneness, and Scrubb might not have it good in that area.

His shot looks a little wonky to me, OTOH his college FT% was way better than DJ (62% to 44%.) So definitely more to work with.
He also seems to have decent handles and ability to slash, which will help with the PnR and rim running.

- Moussa Diabate played just two games for the Clippers in Summer League. He was shut down after suffering an ankle injury in the second game, causing him to walk with a limp and some visible discomfort. While it would’ve been great to see him out there, he did give everyone a glimpse of how good he can be.
Diabate averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 27.1 minutes per game across two appearances. Nothing to write home about, you might say, but the Clippers big man showed significant promise early for someone who has been touted as a developmental player. In a few instances, Diabate showed some nice touch and knack for finding the ball.
The French 19-year-old is extremely talented, but the word often used by Clippers president Lawrence Frank and Clippers Summer League head coach Shaun Fein was “developmental.” Diabate is going to be an investment and a work in progress that the Clippers hope will pay off in about two or three seasons.
Even when he was sidelined, Diabate was often on his feet and was often the loudest trying to help his teammates out with coverages and plays.
