In Troy I trust

Post#1 » by FloridaMan78 » Fri Jun 24, 2022 5:58 am

Gotta give the man his props.

He pulls some crazy moves and sometimes they don’t make sense. But there it is. He deserves it now.

He seriously has moved up the list of best GMs.

Hard parts done, he’s got his draft picks and core to build around.

Now he just has to win.

I agree, I definitely have faith in him.

From a selfish perspective, I just don’t want to see anymore Plumlee, Oakafor, Olynyk or COJO signings beyond one season.

I hate reduced flexibility at the price of these unnecessary vets. That’s my only gripe.

Other than that I’m a happy Pistons fan.

We’ve come a long way from the nightmare SVG era.

Gores needs to extend Weaver right now.

We should be so thankful that he wanted to challenge himself and build this team from literally ground zero.

Cannot wait until next week to see his vision continue to unfold.

Next challenge is right before us. Let's start learning how to win some games.

I havent been this excited for this team since Goin to work Pistons.

Ivey, Cade, Hayes, Diallo
Bey, Livers
Stewart, Duren

Not bad considering what he inherited.

The cap management was puzzling early on but seems now that he had some kind of plan.

Thankfully Gores has stayed out of the way thus far.

Literally playing Fantasy Basketball GM game with the real to life pistons.
Traded away basically the entire team in one off season. or one season.
Got lucky in the lottery one year, not so lucky the second year. Third year? playoffs? Or one more year in the lottery?

Who will be our Center? Ayton probably the center in a sign and trade. KO and Bagley or Stewart and KO? KO and Stewart brings down the cost of Ayton a degree.

Who will be our PF? or Stretch 4? Tweener Bridges? Will have to sign and trade someone to now have the cap to get Ayton AND Bridges.

Too early to nickname him "Dream"?

Draft 1 - Hayes, Stewart, Bey
Draft 2 - Cade, Livers
Draft 3 - Ivey, Duren

Has picked up Diallo & Bags for cheap too

IF we somehow land Ayton and can get Jalen Smith as well I'll be amazed:

Ayton - Stewart - Duren
Bags - Smith - Duren
Bey - Livers - Diallo
Cade - Diallo
Ivey - Hayes (CoJo)

Another Lotto year but picking in the 8-12 range and pray we move up.

Think we can make that starting line up work with Bags in the dunk spot, Ayton spacing out to 15 feet, Bey and Cade cutting and moving all around with Ivey the slashing guard moving the ball until it opens up for him.

I'd cool the jets on expectations for Duren as he's only 18 and we should mold him into a all round offensive weapon as opposed to "just" a rim runner - he's jumper doesn't look broken.

Excited...for a change. Didn't expect Weaver to turn this around so quickly considering we had zero hope heading into his first season

I don't post much, but I have to support the OP's post. "In Troy I trust" is a good mantra. He's built a solid young group of players. I'm interested over the next few seasons to see if Troy thinks a new coach is needed to compliment the young talent.

Drafting well isn't the same as winning. We went from a .500 team to 3 20-win seasons. A lot of GMs could do that and get some plum draft choices Half the reason y'all are fawning over Weaver at the moment is because Sacto (predictably) screwed the pooch.

Weaver and trust can win the day despite all of your losing? Sorry to be a heartbreaker, but It's been a long time since we rock and rolled. Hopefully we can turn the page and plant the seeds of victory.

I definitely think he did a good job in the draft and I'm now satisfied with what we got out of Grant. We'll see how well the roster fits together once games are played. I do think spacing is a concern still and it's still up in the air whether we have another player on this roster who can be a star alongside Cade.

Two. They were 20-46 the year before he was hired. We weren’t exactly building anything prior to Weaver.

I’m not ready to build a shrine for Troy. But Sacramento attempted to bluff Detroit out of assets to pick Murray at 5. Troy stayed at his spot and got the guy he wanted. Kings were also ignorant enough to wait for a godfather offer for 4 that never happened

Weaver didn't take the team from .500 to a 20-win season. Weaver took a team a 20-win team with an utterly bleak outlook to a 20-win team with a very bright outlook in two years because he's demonstrated patience and dedication to doing it the right way. Not every GM can do that or it would be happening frequently, and it's not.

Weaver did a fantastic job of tearing down a horrible vet team and building the foundation for what could be a good young team. That's impressive. Need to wait for the rooks to get some NBA games under their belt before declaring victory though. This very well could be another lottery year if we don't add any shooting and basically play an all 24 and under rotation.

Hopefully we are patient though. I fully expect Ivey to struggle like Green did to start the season last year - crazy drives into traffic resulting in turnovers and difficult shots with the occasional highlight reel mixed in. We're going to have to let him play through a lot of those mistakes.

Weaver is doing something similar to what Presti is doing in OKC, just that he started out with no assets and capped out. What he's done is impressive, considering where the team was when he started. He's got the finances in order and hasn't burned all the future draft capital up. Very good, building for long term success I think.

Weaver made the comment to a reporter last night about being excited about Cade, Ivey, Bey, Stewart, Duren.... so you'd think he considers those 5 the "core" at the moment but that could change. Hayes' name has been left out of recent talk of the "young core" where a year ago his name was still part of it.

Cade, Bey, Ivey, Duren for sure. Possibly Stewart, Bagley, and Hayes.

We hope that one day Duren might develop into a core-type player. Right now, he's a combination of Andre Drummond and Thon Maker.

Stewart is a nice player. We all like him. But he's not a core guy to be built around. Not at this point, anyway.

Cade, Bey and Ivey (hopefully), I'll buy as a core.

Or aka the TIT

This was a home run draft, we got two young athletes with a lot of overhead in terms of potential along with potentially a good to great fitting with Cade. Couldn't have been better and would prefer this over Murray, but best of luck to him in Sactown hell

I expect a lot of lobs and athletic plays next season. If we can fine tune the defense along with better catch and shoots from Bey and Stew, we can make some noise

I think Livers, now healthy, is going to be a big part of this too. Rotation player for sure, but he will get significant minutes

I still want to see what he does in free agency/trades this off season.

Return to Detroit Pistons
