There's still hope (in my mind) that this wasn't all just for Brunson, but for some All Star soon to be determined.

Who? They are wasting real assets to clear space while getting low value assets (all these heavily protected picks) just to clear cap space that they themselves wasted by making stupid signings. What All Star can they trade for with the assets they have left? Dejuante Murray? You needed that 11th overall pick for that for starters. Greg Popovich is not an idiot (unlike apparently Leon Rose). He can realize that those draft picks the Knicks got from the Thunder has little value ESPECIALLY considering that if they don't materialize until the end where the protection is lightest that he'll likely be gone (father time). No GM or front office exec is going to value assets that likely won't materialize for another half decade. The average lifespan of a front office exec is less than that.

Hey guys, we have more picks for future trades or free agency! We just need that one guy to demand a trade and to demand it here! You know, because we’re the only team with a few extra first round picks!

Some all Star or better will ask out and we’ll be able to get him. We just have to be patient. Just because it didn’t work the first 12 years doesn’t mean it won’t work the next 12. It’s going to happen soon. Trust the process and keep punting picks for future picks until we finally land our guy. That’s the way the best teams win games.

Elite players are dying to play for this organization - specifically for Leon Rose and Tom Thibodeau. between Leon’s exceptional managing and Tom’s forward-thinking coaching I definitely see a top guy wanting to be here soon.

So, I feel like just asking this question, I have a disease.

So disgusted with the Knicks, yet curiosity invades my thoughts.

Ok, BX8etcetcetc,

Just with shedding Kemba, does that put the Knicks under the cap and if so, does it change any dynamic in a trade for the Knicks - under the cap now but would go over with a trade of Brunson/Filler, for a S&T ... not sure what would go out.
I realize Mavs still capped out

If the Knicks aren't under the cap, the whole thing is moot and you can say so
But just for the thought experiment, state that they are still over the cap, but if this DID get them under, these are the implications in that trade.

Let's pretend that Burks/Noel and Cam plus their 2023 pick interest them.
Or hell, Fournier and Noel and the pick

Yes, I think the Knicks should just clear out two more salaries and sign Brunson outright.

Just checking if getting under the cap just a little changes the calculation, makes the S&T simpler.
It's a f*cking sickness.

My opinion is they have always been targeting the 2024 free agents or to trade for them in 2023 and the picks aren’t as heavily protected if they don’t convey they actually increase in value by then. Probably won’t work but again that’s the plan

HEZI wrote:Voted FU for many reasons. The same idiots that signed the guys last summer are now using those picks to clear salary.

Really didn’t mind trading out of the draft as there was nobody there that was a must have so that was fine but those protections do suck.

The fact that they are clearing cap space also means our free agency will suck too. This FO has been awful in spending money so it’s just going to be more of the same. The direction they have picked absolutely sucks

the absolute worst part of the trade is the likely hood that 2 of those picks turn to 2nd rounders years from now. the more you look at it the worse it gets
