This is the same team that gave Fournier a 4 year deal 78 million contract when Boston let him go with zero hesitation. We not getting Lavine, Ayton, Beal, Donovan Mitchell. We about to attach all of those picks we got yesterday to move Burks, Noel just to sign Brunson to be our savior.

3 years deal. Feels better thinking about just 2 years left now.

Honestly, it’s not a bad deal for one of the top 3pt guys, I think he was top 5 in makes at a decent percentage? It’s just a terrible fit for our team, roster and coach

Actually, it's gonna be even worse if we do sign Brunson

No matter what, one of Grimes or Cam is out of the rotation. Plain and simple, no two ways about it, even if we trade Burks. If we trade Noel to free up the space, then both Grimes and Cam are out, or maybe one of them and Quick, but we seem to like Quick more

Best case scenario:

Brunson/Rose
Fournier/Quick(Grimes)
RJ/Grimes(Cam)
Randle/Obi
Mitch/Sims (but likely we re-sign Taj after waiving him to free space)

So either we wasted a 1st trading for Cam, or we wasted a 1st drafting Grimes

But no matter what, Obi's still buried on the bench. And I'm not even a big Obi guy, but the way we've treated him is ridiculous. Part of that is on him for not being positionally flexible, but most of it is on the FO for being morons

Honestly, just trade everyone and have a fire sale. Hard tank this year, acquire a bunch of assets, and maybe we can do a poor man's version of what OKC is doing.

This is why the Knicks should have put #11, IQ and Grimes, plus some 2nd rounders (hey, they don't value them!), probably even the Mavs 2023, for Ivey.

Then, shedding Burks, Walker, would have had:

Brunson/Rose
Ivey/Fournier
RJ/Cam

That grinds my gears more than any of the hub bub over last night

As long as Randle is on this squad it means this management team is afraid to make moves and put their mistakes in the past

This. Looks like the FO is all in on Randle. Pretty sickening.

And not for nothing, if the plan was to get rid of Randle (your most talented player and the only guy that can even remotely carry the load) then the other part of the plan should have been to keep the pick and use it well. Adding Brunson and subtracting Randle will put Brunson in Randle's role. And that's just setting him up to fail...especially in NY...especially after another head scratching "all eggs in one basket" telegraphed statement to all the Knick fans that aren't brain dead drones or eternal optimists.

Boston gave us picks last year to get the TPE from Fournier since we could have just signed him outright.

Similar situation here.

I can wrap my head around not really liking anyone in this draft and wanting to punt until next one, even if I think it's ridiculous. The issue is two fold:

It still shows terrible scouting from the organization. They worked out like 7 first round talents. You can't tell me that's real due diligence on looking at players in the draft. Especially since our pick got used on one of my favorite prospects and the following pick got used on another.

We didn't even really set ourselves up for more picks next year. Like why not reroute the Detroit pick instead of the Denver pick to the Hornets? We could have potentially had Denver, Dallas, Washington, and our own pick in a potentially loaded draft. That would have set up nicely to either make moves in the draft or flip those assets for a star cuz the league is valuing 2023 draft more. Best case scenario for the Detroit pick is 2025 and having three picks then but they're def not going to be here for the draft if they keep this up. Now we're basically hoping that Washington will be a better team than us so we can get their pick. You can't keep kicking the can down the road.

So let's assume we trade both Burks and Noel, get nothing significant in return (use the 1sts we got to dump them)

Overall, that'd mean the trade is: 11, Kemba, Burks, Noel, and 4 future 2nds for 30 million in cap space

We then sign Brunson, bring back Taj, re-sign Mitch

Depth chart:

Brunson/Rose/McBride
Fournier/Quick/Keels
RJ/Grimes/Reddish
Randle/Obi
Mitch/Taj/Sims

Theoretically, it's an improvement, but we said the same thing last year. And while yes, we do dump a lot of money, it was all money that we wouldn't have needed to dump if we hadn't given out multi-year deals to guys for being part of a 1 year overachieving team

If I had to guess, we'd also be after a backup C since you can't trust Mitch to stay healthy, Taj is old, and Sims is only good relative to his draft position

We're spinning our wheels trying to reclaim the glory of a fluke 1st round exit. If we were a well-run team like Miami, I'd say there's a chance for it to work out, we just need to be opportunistic and find our Jimmy Butler, but we're more like the late-2010s Magic. Couple more years of mediocrity, then maybe a hard rebuild.

VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

If you see the Knicks getting trolled for refusing to build through the draft and continuing down the path of Star chasing in a trade and free agency and ignore it as “hating” or “overreacting” you’re simply an idiot. There really is nothing else to say about it. It’s not even a different opinion or take. It’s just pure grade A stupidity to continue to think the same approach which has failed many times and is not the model of most successful franchises is the best course of action.

I guess since they are already capped out they would create a large TPE so they could then go after a player. Otherwise they would just be able to use the MLE.

It basically would give them a 25 MM or so TPE to then use to acquire another good player to the roster.

Yeah. Their moves make no sense. Those picks have little trade value regardless of what they may materialize in. You are not offering up picks in a vacuum. You are offering up picks to people that know that if they don't perform they may not be around for whenever those picks are conveyed REGARDLESS of what those picks may actually end up being. Experienced front office execs would know this. Noobs would not cause they don't know that you need to factor in the selfish human element. Honestly I never got why folks thought all those draft picks that the Thunder hoarded were all that valuable. I guess I was wrong cause all it takes is to find one idiot noob FO. So let's hope there's another noob FO out there besides ours.

That was probably why they did them - the Leon Rose FO mater plan can now be revealed - they plan to draft an ENTIRE second round some year! I imagine Silver saying "And with the second round, the Knicks select - followed by 30 names! :banghead:
