Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
I do wonder if Presti sees Josh as a PF long term (Or at least a guy that defends PF) - he has a big frame and is tough, may alleviate some footspeed issues he has when guarding SF. If so, they may have seen Williams and Dieng as the long term fits at SG and SF - something like:
G - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
G - Jalen Williams
F - Ousmane Dieng
F - Josh Giddey
C - Chet Holmgren
Thats certainly a 21st century lineup. All those guys can pass and shoot, outside Josh who likely improves with time.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
his qualities as a basketball player are obvious but imo what i loves most of this fella is something as simple as his answer to "what drives you". he says "there's a lot to that answer but i'm better off keeping that to myself" and his reaction to how he's going to guard embiid (laughs).
once Ray Lewis said something really smart about the teams that missed on Tom Brady. it was something like this: "the most important thing to look for in a QB comes from inside". i think Chet is really that kind of person, not a kid with ball skills, he's a true competitor.
i have no doubt we got the best player in the draft.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
I wonder if there's a chance we sign and trade Dort (after deciding to decline option and get RFA). The more we draft, the less I like Dort fit with this squad.
I guess it's too early to make that kind of move and Presti likely loves Dort way too much.

i'm on the other side of this fence. the more i love Dort's fit, last season the thunder was 3 points per 100 defensive possessions away from the top 8 best teams defensively and imo he can be a huge part of that leap forward. the ones i really want to take the leap forward is SGA and Giddey w their defense and shooting.
we tend really to overrate the offensive side when it's the other side of the ball that has consistently carrying teams to the top tier for years now.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
I think Presti really wanted Williams...otherwise could have gamble and take Duren (or Griffin) to find a trade with Charlotte/Detroit.
I'm not sure Presti entered the draft willing to draft Dieng, maybe he tried Ivey/Sharpe/Sochan(?) and had Dieng 7-9 on his board and thought it was great value to draft him.

Where/when exactly is he getting any ball handling duties outside of his inevitable non-stop tenure with the OKC Blue? Really really hate that pick and hate that I can spidey sense a Presti shy boi like him from a mile away. Maybe he gets good some day but that's nowhere close to now.
I can't let that blemish that we got Chet tonight though. He's the real prize and the best talent in the draft and he's a member of this team now. I like the Jalen Williams pick too and even voted for him in the realgm consensus mock a couple weeks ago. Even like Jaylin Williams but I was kinda shocked by the pick considering who was still on the board.
We only really have 3 ball handler , giddey , sga , Mann . Dieng would probably get reps eventually.
At 30s it’s more of what role you got for that guy and see who develop the most. Not a bad pick imo. Maybe would have taken a different big but can’t figure out in 5 years which of them would be the best of that 30-40s big.
Poku is/has been there too as another jumbo playmaker whose hand needs held. Not to mention the guy we just picked at 12 who excels with the ball in his hands.
Poku needs to get into the rotation first . For now the idea of Poku > his actual on court value .

Keep Dieng and Maledon so Victor will feel good in OKC.

Listened to some of the Vecennie live show...both Matt Pennie and another guest believed Williams made ton of sense fit wise in OKC just before we made the pick (they were low on Dieng though). Vecennie loved the pick too and he said his draft stock went higher before draft night (Hawks/Cavs wanted him)

Oh well, in Presti we trust.
I wanted Chet and we got him. If he becomes a bust we screwed but can't ever blame Presti for the pick...he was a consensus top 3 pick. if Chet becomes a great player and one of Williams/Dieng develop into a good role player, we good.

Is ball handling really one of his top traits? Seems like he mostly plays off ball from what I’m seeing.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
watching jalen williams tape. one thing that i envied back when we were fighting against GSW for the top was how they had always one or two bench players that were exactly like this - took the ball, took a pick, went through their reads, scored or led to score 2. players off the bench that can run a simple play extremely efficiently - and that felt like we were amassing deficits and allowing big runs against second stringers with the reggie jacksons, dion waiters and washed up derek fishers of the world on court. jalen w looks like exactly that type that except that he's big, uber athletic and fluid.
i have no idea why analysts keep beating that drum really;

Let me know what you think. You can shape my opinion.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
Ok I'm buying the Williams pick. He looks way better than I thought. I guess I was pissed we didn't draftDuren/AJG but I didn't want a big that can't shoot (still think Duren at 12 was great value) and probably AJG was beyond terrible in the predraft process to fall that much. Presti isn't scared to take risks so he probably had many red flags about him.
I thought Williams was pissed being drafted by the Thunder but he just has a sad face...looks like a match with me
Still don't get the Dieng pick and it's weird to me to spend so many draft picks on a guy that will take such a long time to develop (only Sharpe was worth it in my opinion). Just not the direction I want our team to go for the next 2-3 years.

According to Presti post-draft interview, the Thunder scouts Dieng since he was 16.
