Was listening to the Sam Vicenie draft reactions podcast. Apparently the workouts Banchero held, scouts were blown away.

I think DET won the draft. Duren is downright frightening  chiseled from granite. I think Ivey is a star too. We'll have to see how they all fit together. The Grant trade was an initial disappointment- but they have a ton of cap space to work with. I think they are ready to take a step.

Thanks. It’s gonna take them both a while to develop and they’re both pretty boom/bust but the potential is there.

Meanwhile Paolo will probably be running 4/5 pick and rolls from day one.

4/5 pick and rolls with WCJ inverted 4/1 pick and rolls with Suggs or even 5/1. We have a wet dream of flexible roster.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Agree...I was figuring if DET got Ayton, they move up quick...this is probably a more sensible, sustainable plan-like ORL FO.

As a fan, I want fireworks :D

Would be a kick in the cojones if DET threw a max offer at Anfernee Simons with all of the cap they cleared in POR trade

Dudes not a bad shooter, he just took some bad shots, that can be corrected

Will he be Steph with the 3, no... But he's not exactly Dwight Howard shooting 3s

Didn't Suggs also shoot 34% in college? If you can't really excel at the college 3, at least near 40%, then you probably aren't an NBA level shooter. I think the Magic here went with bully ball and aren't really banking on him becoming a great shooter. They just want a guy who can score and facilitate a little. If it turns out he's really good at those things, then I guess we have to get a roster that will fit around him.

In Paolo’s defense, he finished the season hot from three meanwhile Suggs started hot from three and fell off as the season went on.

Still though, it’s likely a Fultz/Suggs backcourt won’t mesh well with Paolo. Truthfully, it wouldn’t mesh well with a lot of guys in 2022. The FO definitely needs to shift some pieces around.. and they have shown they aren’t exactly the most proactive FO in the league.

Yeah, I feel like people have become attached to certain players (or a certain vision) of this team without realizing, as this a rebuild, unless you are "that guy or those guys" (who the magic haven't really established yet maybe with the exception of franz) their fit doesn't really matter and could be moved to build a more cohesive team.

People has to understand rebuild is about those 2-3 top five picks you gain from tanking.
stop.

our rebuild is about: Wagner-Suggs-Banchero.
that is the core.
fultz, anthony, hampton and whoever else has to be functional to those guys.

it is(should be)also a way to take front office accountable

Recent top picks are not always part of a core. Remember Fultz was supposed to be part of the core in Philly and Jabari Parker was supposed to be the core in Mil. It's really about who shows up on the court and fits what the team is doing going forward. As of right now the magic really don't have anything set in stone maybe with the exception of Franz, and that is typically the case until you find "that guy" or "guys" then you just build around them.

fultz and parker were both injured come on.

you do not tank one entire year to build the team around....fultz,who basically has been taken from nba garbage or cole anthony, you took at theend fo lottery and has clear limitations.

point is always the same: team should want banchero, suggs and wagner to have success because theyh ave potential and because they picked them.
so if that should require to sacrifice anthony, fultz or whoever else should gonna happen.

this concept that"youngs have to fight for their playing time between them like in an arena and the best survive is wrong,as Oladipo already explained us after he was gone.

Happy to have Banchero, but I'm getting Rich-Man's-Julius-Randle vibes from watching highlights. I hope he can become more than that.

If they sign Ayton then the Pistons can be top 10 in the East, IMO.

I really feel like Detroit is next up if everything pans out.

if he can give us 5-6 seasons at Randle 2020-21 level or Griffin 2018-19 level, would be a fantastic pic.

Just because you are drafted high doesn't mean you are the future of the team. It just means they would like you to be the future of the team. If you remain on a team is dependent on your play on the court. If you don't like the Fultz and Jabari comparisons you can use Derrick Williams, Anthony Bennett, Andrea Bargnani, Mario, Payton as examples. Hell, Mo is likely to be gone and he was drafted high. There is long line of examples of young guys being moved because they don't fit the future.

And Victor is a prime example of what I am talking about. They didn't like his play and give up on him. His so called blow which wasn't is another story, lol

Yah, that's the downside comp. I am not sure what a rich man Randle equates, to, but as long Randle is shooting it effectively he's pretty good. If he stopped turning it over and played better defense, that's a really good player. Randle is also only 6'8"

I guess where i am going is if Randle's 2020-21(richmanRandle) is an example of what Banchero's floor outcome is then sign me up. The passing alone is going to be super valuable. The shooting will have to be there though to get to his high end outcomes.

You can find some crazy highlights of Randle in high school. He had an injury is why he dropped in the draft.

Here's the exact quote from Matt Pennie (Vecenie's co-host) in their podcast right before the draft.

"I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Paolo doesn't go #2 or maybe even #1. He's looked phenomenal during the pre-draft process. He's gone in and crushed everywhere. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive."

honestly i think Randle is a good comp. Except he's smaller, less explosive. Randle is a good 6'8 in shoes with a big body. Banchero is a 7 footer in shoes.

If Banchero becomes a better version of a 24/10/6 guy, I mean is anyone here really complaining?

Suggs had a rough rookie season so I get why some are out on him but Paolo's game will help him so much since it will allow him to play more in his Gonzaga role as an awesome connector guard instead of someone who has to run pick and roll every other time down the floor.

Randle is a bad defender. I'd rather poke my eyes than watch Randle every game.
