One thing I just stumbled upon, I didn't know about it.
Kyrie might have not have received his full salary, but the Nets got no relief from their prerty substantial tax bill.
Getting a guy like Kyrie and then he doesn't play it's a disaster from every standpoint, really.

He're the problem with the go to LA for $6mil thinking. Why not just pick up your $37mil option, play with KD one more year & then go get your full max from LA next year? Why risk $31mil, plus risk that things don't go smoothly in LA & change their minds? Or Lebron walks & LA decides to rebuild?
Imo, he won't play anywhere for as little as $6 million. He's just trying to create leverage, same with the list of teams. An opt-in and trade is probably his best bet. That's what CP3 did when he went to the Rockets.

That's fine, but assuming the Lakers don't want to move AD, they need to find somebody that will trade decent players for Westbrook's expiring contract. The Nets are not going to take on an added tax burden for a worse product on the court just to get Kyrie to LAL. I don't know what team wants Westbrook's expiring? I don't think Philly is that eager to dump Harris's money a year early. Does Charlotte offer a Hayward+Washington package? It's nearly impossible to find a Westbrook taker.

lol that analogy is pretty accurate. I guess in this scenario the Lakers are the rich senile old man who desperately wants to replace the even crazier, less hot girl that they are currently dating, just so they could have another year of a hot girl riding shotgun in their Corvette.

After what happened this season, why do people still think Kyrie truly cares about money. He didn't complain even once.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

That's the conundrum. Then what does he care about? What is his thinking? Is he cutting off his nose to spite his face, because he feels disrespected that the Nets will only fully guarantee the 1st 2 seasons of his $50 million a year deal, amongst all his shenanigans? So now he's willing to play for $6 mill on a one year, and sign something like a 4 year $150 next summer with the Lakers, if they even offer him that? Or he'll play for Orlando for 1 year on a big deal, then go the Lakers, again, if they are even willing to meet him at max on 4 years?

This all reeks of 1 of 2 things, or both:

1. There is an ulterior motive. Kyrie has wanted out before this and is now using this false narrative of the unguaranteed max to look like the good guy while he's forcing his way out.

2. Kyrie is even more unhinged then previously thought.

I mean, they're just taking on whatever they can get at this point. The Nets are already over the projected cap without Kyrie's ~$37 million, depending on what Mills does.

Do you think the Clippers in 2017 wanted Beverly, Lou, Harrell, Dekker, Liggins, Hilliard, Wiltjer, and Gallinari (using the 1st they got in a trade a week later)? I'm going to say the answer is no to most/all of those players.

Clippers just had to retrieve some sort of value or lose Paul for nothing. Getting some assets back is better than nothing. Contract extension talks broke down, much like the Kyrie situation. Let the guy opt-in and trade him somewhere.

The tax for next season isn't calculated until the end of the regular season, they have many months to figure that out. Even if they don't, I doubt Tsai is that worried about it.

Honestly if he’d been more into playing basketball the last couple years he’d be in a better spot…

oh if he behaved normal he'd be in a much better shot. Very good chance Nets have a title. They would have definitely had better seasons and his value on the market would be higher.

Uhoh.... is Kyrie going to NY?

They've got enough cap-space to offer him something reasonable and a whole lot of defensive players to cover for his deficiencies on that end.

because everyone has a limit on how much money their willing to light on fire to prove a point. And how many points to they really want to make by doing so.

Kyrie for MLE is absurd and was put out there by his incompetent, 0 experience family agent. He burned $16m last year, while noone knows exactly how crazy he is and how much more he'd be willing to burn, thowing out another $30m next year and potentially never being eligible for a max deal again on paper looks too crazy even for Kyrie, who btw, is actually fighting to get PAID more currently so it's not like the guy is over that money thing.

It takes a LOT of baggage to make it so an NBA team in this day and age won’t want a player with Kyrie’s skill set at max money.

Kyrie has done a great job cultivating that baggage. The Knicks preferring Brunson speaks volumes.

exactly, I always say NBA players are like CALTECH PHDs. They are the outliers among outliers. When you're as gifted as they are people will overlook alot. And understandbly so. What they do just can't be done by others.

But even they have a breaking point

theres only one person that is going to save kyrie at this point. Pat riley! riles going to have a meeting with kyrie, and discuss what it takes to be a miami heat player.. it will be up to kyrie to accept the terms. it could be his last chance at winning.
