I don’t want my excitement with this pick to jump to some unreasonable level of expectation with him, so here is my realistic prediction for Paolo:

27 time All-Star.

-10 time All-Star while alive.
-17 time All-Star in the distant future when they put his reanimated brain inside of a robot.

I wanted to pick people’s brains on this. Is anyone really annoyed if we didn’t bring him in for a workout? They did the interview which is the most important part and got all his medicals. Do we really need to see him go one on one with a chair. Feels like a cop out for people who just wanted another guy. Cough cough Kevin Clark

I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Seems like they did the workout with JBJ.. weren't thrilled.. then Chet refused to give the medicals so they drafted Banchero.

I thought we were taking Jabari Smith but the Magic seem Paolo as the best player in this draft. Changes could change during the season but it appears RIGHT NOW that Paolo is on track to be the best player in this draft. I don't want to see anymore of this is Paolo's team, He hasn't played for us yet. This is Jalen Suggs team until next year starts and is proven otherwise.

A team waiting for an offensive fulcrum for years took the best shot creator and playmaker at the top of the draft, no surprise at the end of the day.
The Wagner/Banchero one two punch is really intriguing. Both are big, skilled, unselfish, good passers forward.

All i got from this is that early on they were already going for Paolo but they wanted to be convinced otherwise and thus got Jabari and Chet for workouts, interview and the works. However, it didn't change their minds enough so they went with thwir original choice.

Others here have the same thinking as me?

Yea I agree. It’s consistent with what Woj is saying now and what Weltman said on Russillo podcast. They played this pretty damn good. Unfortunately the other teams didn’t bite on a trade.

Than it's Cole Anthony's or anybody on the roster that's actually played 1 year or more on the magic.

I think you're right. I can understand why getting to know a guy's persona and demeanor is probably more important than seeing if they can dribble in person. For a highly televised major college prospect- there are miles of film to review in far more telling situations than a private workout. It is critical to talk to them and see what's between their ears and beneath their ribs and they apparently did that. They locked on Paolo and they were presented with (or created?) this national perception that he wasn't #1, in hopes of goosing up a trade from OKC and HOU. It didn't develop, but the way Woj gave credit to their organizational discretion makes you realize how difficult that can be to pull off...it didn't bear fruit, but you got to give Weltman credit. I'll also say that Jabari was the easy pick, the lazy pick, the safe pick, the plug-n-play high-floor guy, the one I would have made...I'm pumped for Paolo, they sky is the limit but there's got to be some roster moves made to best utilize him, IMO.

Greatest draft move in recent history was pulled off the same way by Ainge...worth a try and easier said than done.

*Best trade overall in recent history was Vuc to Chicago :D

Look I love Suggs the guy is going to be a really good player for a long time. I have a damn signed basketball by him in my office. But you can’t call it his team with what he did on offense last year. Again I love him and think last year was a little flukey but dude come back to planet earth

It's bull sh-t for anyone to call this Paolo's team over current magic players that have been on the team 1+years. Paolo hasn't done anything with the team, HE JUST GOT DRAFTED. In the summer league and the preseason, Paolo is going to be mostly playing against backup/rotation or players trying to make the team vs the actual starters. Paolo has to play at least 1 regular season game and I seriously doubt he be fully ready to have full control over the team.

Honestly, nobody has the right to say this is their team, lol. Time will dictate who's team this is.

It's his team now my friend. No one is the face of a 20 win team, so our first #1 pick in the over a decade gets that title by default. Mainly because no one here can hold the title because we sucked. I wouldn't mind Franz having it tho.

But you should calm down bud, people are just excited. No reason to go bananas on something so irrelavent.

Again, i have to ask... why are people crediting our FO for creating smoke.in the hopes of being able to do a complicated maneuver of getting their man plus picks?

When the simplest answer could be that after all is said and done, they decided on Paolo and just shut up about it like they always do.

I mean, all these assumptions that its Chet or Jabari came from outside our FO. They all were connecting dots and finding reasons while our FO was probably looking at which MICH players could ve had in the 2nd round to please our owners. Lol

Were they even actively looking for a trade? That wpuld show their hand on who they liked right?

Maybe thats where the leak came from that we wanted PB? Last minute trade offerings and HOU or OKC found out we wanted PB all along?

Wow, you must have something against the guy to be saying this haha.

Suggs was not impressive as a rookie, but it's his team now for some reason?

Suggs looked to me like the game was moving too fast for him as a rookie. I thought he was trying to intensely analyze every little facet of what was happening out there, instead of playing his game. To be honest I thought Suggs looked bizarre on some possessions, tossing the ball nowhere near a teammate at times, arguing every single call and appearing to have almost no sense of not only just how to score but of what a good shot was either. I thought he looked like he needed to settle down and just focusing on making shots instead of focusing on every little detail.

To me I thought he seemed to have this amazing attention to detail that made me think he probably got it from being a football player. When i think about it, i think it makes sense because a quarterback has to analyze the positioning of players at the line of scrimmage before a snap, calculating which guys had speed, which guys didn't, who was going to blitz or not, etc. And then use that swhort-term knowledge for a quick 4 or 5 second burst of action.

In basketball I feel it is a more instinctive game that doesn't require as much conscious attention to detail all of the time. Basically i thought Suggs appeared to be overthinking everything.

Definitely an amazing athlete though.

Sorry for rant but to me Suggs was thought-provoking to watch.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.
