I’m honestly **** infuriated this time around. We have no clue who/what kind of value could even be on the board come that pick tonight, but still chose to punt it for cash hours before the draft.

That’s just flat out inexcusable and poor asset management.

Chuma okeke, RJ Hampton, Anthony, Fultz, etc are not good enough for me to not want to take as many stabs at getting legit talent as possible. This is what you do in rebuilds when you still don’t have a franchise player.

Why can us as fans understand that, but our president of basketball ops not?

They'll inevitably fill out the roster with Lakeland guys that aren't really NBA players.

Meanwhile, Miami will scrape the bottom of the barrel for talent and squeeze value wherever they can.

These guys act like we are championship contenders with extremely valuable roster spots. We are in talent acquisition mode last time I checked.

Ive been saying it for longest, as crazy as it may sound. I believe People on this very forum could run this front office exactly how Weltman is doing. There is no creativity or anything they are special at. Its all formulaic and exactly how it is mapped out is exactly the course they take. No deviation. Anyone can do that...

I assume the front office puts such a premium on cash because they believe a day will come when money helps them sign players, even if that time is years away. The FO have taken a lot of steps to increase available money. Is there something I’m not understanding in my assessment?

If The Magic don't use #32 for a player or use it to trade up, you all get to make a thread that you can bash me in.

The #37th pick was traded for 2 future 2nd round picks. Thats why you never punt your pick before the draft starts. You dont know what player slides and how much other teams want that said player.

Maybe we wanted the cash and a pick rather than 2 picks?

The thing that annoys me about constantly punting second round picks is that every year we end up having to give minutes to people like Ignas Brazdeikis, and I can’t help but wonder if someone that we drafted in the 30s would be a better use of that time. At least maybe then they have some upside for something. It isn’t just the second rounders too, don’t forget in WeltHam’s first offseason they traded away the first we got from Toronto in the Ibaka trade for cash too. There was a couple players that ended up being solid NBA players taken after that pick. I just don’t get how a rebuilding franchise can just sell draft picks away every year. Worst case scenario you draft a guy who stinks on a no guaranteed contract and you either get rid of him or see if he does anything in Lakeland. At least we actually kept 32, but we could have taken another swing at someone at 35 but putting more money in the DeVos family’s pockets is more important.
