btw, honestly i dont care about his political stances and even agree with some, but i do find it annoying that he seems to care more about his politics than he does basketball. Dude hasnt played basketball in 2 years, he should be devoting all his time to getting back out there and improving his game, not writing books and going on political talk shows
Trying to predict durability and injuries with any sort of confidence is silly regardless of which way you are leaning, you simply have zero knowledge about the situation so why even go there?
How many people said that Embiid will never play in the NBA after miss his first 2 seasons? Or wrote off Steph after his early ankle issues?
And yes, I'm sure every other player in the NBA spends 100% of his time on basketball and nothing else making JI the only exception.
no one "wrote off Steph" during his ankle issues. and during those issues, he had 3 years of at least 74 games and 1 of 23 in his 1st four years. so there were a few questions, but no one wrote him off. Embiid you are spot on with.
He signed an extension for 11 Million a year despite being young and putting up all star numbers, barring injuries he would have gotten the max or close to it.

Re: poll: will Isaac be a Magician on opening night?
Steph Curry signed exstension after 3 years, Warriors kind a tricked him into it, they probably knew he is better than it and offered it before he has chance outplaying exstension in year 4.
But there is also need to add some context to his 4 years $44M exstension.
No nba player in that moment, but Kobe, made $30M a year.
However, Blake Griffin for example, drafted on same draft, being selected allstar twice, and under "Derrick Rose" rule, with maximum aligiable exstension was still only "maxed out" for 5 years, $19M a year ( at average). Matter of fact in year one, Griffin's full blown max ( and keep in mind, first overall pick's salary was scaling higher than Curry's 7th overall pick, much different) only made $16M .
Those were days where Tim Duncan was only making $10M a year.
So when you look at things from 2012 perspective, giving 4 years $44M was major contract given and he was in play for top 50 highest payed players.
From today's perspective offering 4 years, $78M is something that Aaron Gordon would accept, back in 2013 was full blown, fully scaled max contract of Blake Griffin who at times was viewed as future of nba. In comparison, Luka Doncic with similar accomplishments signed 5 years, $212M exstension today.
NBA simply skyrocketed their salaries over 10 years, mostly due global inflation of money in general, but that's a story for another day.

I’ve seen elsewhere that Isaac is “working out in Orlando “…anyone hear more specifics about where he’s at, physically? What level of rehab/Bball work he’s up to?

Starting to sound like Isaac is not scheduled as-healthy for opening night.
I guess we can pencil Banchero in as starter.

You can pen Banchero in. He's starting even if Isaac is healthy and looks like his old self.

O-Sen has a story I can't read, and there is this as well.

Weltman also provided an update on Jonathan Isaac, who had surgery after a “minor right hamstring injury” he suffered in mid-March while rehabilitating the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that forced him to miss the previous two seasons.
“Jonathan’s still kind of catching up from his last procedure,” Weltman said. “He’s doing well. He’s doing half-court iso work. He’s progressing well. He’ll take the rest of the summer and we’re monitoring him closely.”
Isaac should be padded up for full-contact tackles, not "iso work", whatever the heck that means ?!?!?!?!?!?
THe O-Sen lin O-Sen: why can't you let me read this ??? : link

Re: poll: will Isaac be a Magician on opening night?
Isaac himself said he will be ready for training camp in an interview a few weeks ago.
Still coming off the bench though regardless if he was healthy or not.

I have always believed Mr. Rookie, now Banchero, would start. But that a trade would be required to facilitate that. I still feel this is possible, but if Isaac is really not ready, then it is less probable.

It was always happening with or without a trade.
Jonathan Isaac could show up to camp in late September without a knee brace and looking like he did in 2019 pre injuries and Banchero is still starting.

The ONLY way a 100% healthy, 100% back-to-form Isaac leads to Banchero starting is with this starting five: Fultz/F-Wagner/Banchero/Isaac/Carter. And I can't see that.
But if F-Wagner can guard 2s and Isaac can guard 3s, well ..... maybe ???
Certainly on offense it would be a counter-culture starting squad.

He has to come off the bench for a season, can play some small ball 5, but it's time for him to move on

Re: poll: will Isaac be a Magician on opening night?
It seems like Isaac's been doing half-court iso-work for the entirety of the last 3 years. I literally do not see a world where he plays more than 20 mpg next season. There's no reason to, && he is going to need time.

They'd start Isaac over Carter before they started Isaac over Banchero. Believe me.
Paolo Banchero is 100 million zillion percent starting and playing big minutes no matter what happens with the rest of the roster.
There's literally no scenario outside of Banchero being injured he's not starting for this team.

Agree... if 100% JI is back, they would start him.over WCJ.
However, aince this is the beginning, they probably would make him come off the bench for 15mina then 20mina then 25mins...

This is also a very, very bold starting five:
Fultz/some-SG/F-Wagner/Banchero/Carter
I still think a trade makes sense, even if only in time (i.e. not by opening night). Perhaps is Isaac plays very well, it would be a suprise Carter that is traded.
We will see: but I for one think this roster is a train-wreck of a mess. A bunch of combo guards and a bunch of PFs. That's not a roster.

Re: poll: will Isaac be a Magician on opening night?
There's nothing wrong with having a 6th man who would be a starter on other teams. Given his versatility, he could play 35 mins a game at up to 3 positions...no reason to rush to trade him just because he may not start. This is not a problem we've had lately...I hope we have a lot more of it...definitely a possibility among our guards...if anybody hits shots, they get to play.
