Castle should definitely be off the table. He's a UFA looking for the max who doesn't deserve the max. Spurs priority should still be a young tallish playmaker. If that ends up being a wing (ala JT or Lebron), all the better but Ingram isn't that guy imo.
Heck, even a younger CP3 could do wonders for him. Look at how much better it’s going with 100 year-old Chris Paul! I think they need a point guard who can get his own and get the ball to Wemby. Without CP, I don’t think they get him the ball much at all. He could probably get at least 10 more easy buckets a game if the pass ever made it to him. He’s damn near open all the time, but he always has to reset or do something else because they can’t get him the ball.
I don't like his game that much, but LaMelo Ball would be a fun player to pair him with. Of the "available" ones, maybe Fox is the best fit. Even someone like Brunson would elevate Wemby's game. Look at how well KAT is doing in NY. I think they still hold the highest efficiency in PnR. On high volume too.
I feel like the spurs are going to wait for growth. I don’t think it’s wrong, Celtics did it, I do think it doesn’t have to be for everybody. Some players you need to go for it early. Maybe half of year 2 is still too early but I bet the Cavs would do it differently with LBJ if they knew he was going to leave. I bet they would have done anything to cash in assets to give him what he wanted. The lakers did it a couple times with Uncle LBJ, Cavs played in his face during his prime. Denver is playing in Jokic’s face right now!
Without Wemby, the spurs would probably struggle to win a handful of games in a season. I wouldn’t make crippling moves but I definitely would bring in another star with their assets! No way I’m letting them end this season with that team, unless a YOUNG star isn’t available.
Ball is an excellent player, Wemby would probably get mad at him though because he doesn’t look like he takes things seriously enough. Wemby wants to be the best ever. Ball, right now, seems like he wants to be one of the current best. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s the difference between great(est) and very good. With that said, it would still work on the court, likely extremely well. Ball will score in bunches, that will be highly useful, but he may be the best passing PG in the NBA. He has crazy vision. Doesn’t mean he always uses it, but he has IT. Maybe Trae is a better passer, but I’m not thinking about it hard enough. (Luka isn’t a PG! Jokic either lol)
