relationships..
dallas gm and lakers gm have a 20 year history and a relationship.
it happens everyday in life all around us. we all know that guy, that got a job/promotion/bonus or whatever because he had a relationship with the boss. We all know that landlord, that only puts people in his appartments that he knows or gets recommended.
this is just what humans do. relationships build trust, naturally you gravitate towards people that you trust. this is regular human behaviour and not a conspiracy.
Harrison could have never pulled off this kind of deal in silence with other GMs he has no relationship with. and they didnt want a bidding war, circus or huge distraction for their team with a weeklong bidding war between teams for their star player. perfectly fine, reasonable and totally legit. now the decision to trade luka is definitley something we can argue about, does it make sense or not? we can all have different opinions that.
there is absolutely NO WAY the mavs do this for the lakers out of pure love for the league or the pockets of other owners.
Relationships got major superstar players traded to the Lakers for the last 50 years? Or was it the league needing its marquee franchise always relevant?
The Lakers have a lot of things that benefit them. We already have a lot of former players who are from that region, and/or are Lakers fans.
The location, weather, Hollywood, the prestige, and actually, yes, connections are a factor. Maybe if I was an owner I'm not hiring Lakers alum / Lakers connection guys to at least diminish some connections factors. Look at all the guys who decided to go the LA.
LA is an amazing place to be if you are rich and famous, there's absolutely no secret about that reality.
Look, as a Clippers fan, as soon as the team actually started trying to not be trash, so like 15 years, they've had Chris Paul, Kawhi, Paul George, Harden all come in trades, and that's without any franchise prestige, history, deep connections. If the Clippers can get all those guys, do you think the league even needs to do anything in order for the Lakers to get more and even better guys?
What did the league do to get Lebron to LA? Nothing, he just showed up, all LA had to do was make sure they had cap. What about Shaq? What about Kobe forcing his way there? AD?

I know people get surprised by this a lot, but many rich people still want to be even more rich. Not being a billionaire I can't tell you the reasoning or the mentality, and it's not all rich people, but just because people are rich doesn't mean they want to waste money.
There are certainly people who are rich and are where they are because they are not just throwing away money, so that could be a factor, it is not in their mentality to just waste money without a purpose. I guess we should really stop being surprised that some rich people are doing what is best for their pockets and thinking, "but they already have so much money".
