OKC tried to make Melo a catch and shoot guy last year because Westbrook is so ball dominant. Marvin is a much better fit in that role for them and he is a much better defender than Melo. MKG gives them more bench depth and gives them another defender to throw at Houston and Golden State. Pg13, MKG, Roberson, Marvin, and Adams is a lot of defensive talent to throw out there.
As for Melo in Charlotte? He is a big expiring (27 million) and that would be a perfect way to dump Marvin and MKG to gain the cap flexibility we need next offseason. Maybe we agree to buy him out after the trade so he can sign wherever he wants to. Maybe we send him to a third team for their expirings. Maybe MJ wants to keep him for marketing, and he agrees to play here for one year to be our second scoring option and rebuild some of his value for one last contract.
Actually Melo would not be a bad idea right now as things are if we are not doing an immediate rebuild. He has a no trade clause so MJ and Kemba needs to butter him up (am I using the right phrase? Guys sorry, my English is a bit rusty), but as buyout is an option for OKC I think he may be interested in a one year switch. I don’t think highly of him, he is not the player he was, but two things:
1. He still sells tickets, would be fun to watch with Kemba (half the time)
2. He plays around 30 mins per game, 30 less than MKG and Marv combined. I can get behind any 2 for 1 trade, because I think we need time for Miles and will not be able to move Batum.
Now would OKC interested? I sure don’t know. I wouldn’t be if I were for them, but who knows.
