They think they can be better without Reddish's minutes. And they probably will be.
That's a red flag.
I'm pretty confident you are wrong on this, the hawks traded him because they weren't going to sign him long term..they also have higher priced vets making a lot of money that are getting playing time over him to begin with..nothing to do with red flags, but again, as I stated before, the knicks got him for free. if they traded Grimes for him, that would have been a different story
This is it. The Hawks backed themselves in to a corner with Cam with the extension given to Huerter and Collins and still have to decide on Hunter who they’ve made their choice on even tho he’s injury prone. I guess Hunter’s defensive versatility is what swayed them toward choosing him in the long run. There was just too many wings in ATL. Cam slipped thru the crack
You guys are arguing two extremes, and I think the truth is somewhere in between.
Reddish's production as an NBA player (and at Duke, too) has been a major red flag, and in a vacuum it can be argued he's one of the worst players in the league. In terms of winning, the Hawks have shown they can be better without him, and the numbers back this up.
At the same time, Cam's pedigree and scouted talent is still through the roof and intriguing. Players like him - immense pedigree, and team control left - usually do not get cast away this quickly by teams, no matter how poorly they're playing, unless they're about to be out of the league. The Hawk's glut of contracts, both existing and on deck, pushed them to make a move since they are a floundering team attempting to be competitive.
So I don't think that Reddish slipped through the cracks, nor do I think ATL dumped him. The Hawks had more pressure/urgency than we usually see in these situations with underperforming, high-lotto picks, and chose to move on from the guy who was the worst player of the overpopulated group. I think it was a pretty easy decision for them based on Cam's play and attitude, but at the same time I think they would have waited him out a bit longer if it wasn't for their wing logjam.
TL;DR Cam's been a trash basketball player on the whole, but teams don't typically move guys like him unless they're forced to (star trade, cap issues, roster issues).
