I believe it’s one of those things were multiple things can be true.
1. Mark Williams is healthy enough to play right now
2. His exams showed major red flags beyond what they were informed on, which is an out for the Lakers
I think we are all aware that trades can be amended, though as a rule that has always been before the trade deadline. My point is the league should not allow an extended amendment exception, because a healthy player was traded to LA for the agreed upon package. Three days later, Rob Pelinka backed out of that agreement. When physicals have been failed previously, the cause has often been cited, isn't it curious that isn't the case here? Tyson's toe, Montiejunas' back, not sure about Sean Elliot and his kidney issue in the 90s, but he went on to be an All-Star again and a championship winner while playing at a pretty high level for 5 of the last 7 seasons after his trade.
Obviously the Lakers are in their right to rescind the trade and fail Mark's physical, they've done just that. Is it exploiting a loophole, potentially in bad faith? Many people who aren't laker fans seem to think so. Will anything happen? Many of those same people think not. If the Lakers don't win another title with LeBron and Mark doesn't retire in that timeline, who should the Lakers direct their ire towards?
A win-win trade has become a lose-lose and a talented young player is in limbo, but let's not look too closely at the guy who has always given you "snake vibes".
