It’s an interesting moment because Demps is an idiosyncratic GM, and although Davis’ trade value won’t go down, the number of teams who have assets and can offer a winning environment is limited. LA could say they’re going to move on and deal Ingram for Beal, and then the Pelicans are short one bidder in July..
They can try, but I think the Pels call their bluff and say "Well, we are going to wait for the Celtics anyways". I doubt Ingram is the make-or-break piece in an AD trade.
What's there to wait. Pelicans call up and ask if Tatum is available. If no, then there's nothing more to discuss and I would rather take Ingram + Ball than Brown and some picks.
Why wait?
- Because they can get Ingram and Ball whenever they want.
- Because AD isn't a free agent until the end of next season.
- Because they haven't been able to offer AD the supermax yet
- Because they would probably field offers from all 29 teams before trading AD, rather than trading him to the Lakers in a hush-hush deal
And yes, I have no qualms trading Tatum for a 25 year old stud averaging 28ppg, 13rpg, 5apg 2.5 bpg, 3-time member of the all-defensive team.
