I actually like some of what we did offensively. The key is to not ditch it after a couple of weeks. It's easy to run stuff now when it's fresh off training camp. The good teams keep building throughout the year. The bad ones go back to bad habits. Second key is Ben needs to get more comfortable. Hopefully that comes with time.
I got bored and decided to save a few plays I liked.
NBA offense doesn't need to be rocket science. Here's a play that could easily turn into a KD iso. Clax sneaks behind the defense and sets a flare screen for Kyrie. If that pass isn't there, KD has a ton of space to attack. It can flow right into a PNR for KD too.
This is what happens when the big steps up to stop the Kyrie 3. With Joe + Patty in the corner, this play is almost too easy. What I like about this simple action is that it doesn't let the defense ignore Claxton because he can't shoot. If they stay in the paint, it's a wide open look for Kyrie.
This is kind of a counter off the same action. Kyrie fakes the flare screen and takes a handoff from KD. Now KD is the one using the off ball screen. You could see the center not know whether he should help towards Kyrie or KD and gets stuck in the middle. Ben's defender technically could stopped Kyrie's drive but you could see the idea.
This is just the sort of stuff we would run with Kenny + MDA. It was gone last year. Spain PNR with KD setting the 2nd screen. He doesn't make contact like he's supposed to but the action causes enough confusion where he gets a great look.
Probably one of my favorite ones. Ben + Day'ron fake a PNR. It's just a decoy that set up a down screen for Joe Harris. Joe's defender gets blindsided by the screen and that's a layup from 3. Joe's back screen in the beginning sets it up.
This is just an awesome transition pass from Ben. 7 seconds left in the half and he has the confidence to look off Royce's defender so he doesn't get to him in time. His decision making in transition is really good.
