I don’t get the Jrue comparisons because Suggs is aggressive offensively while Jrue is more passive.
The simple rationale for Barnes over Suggs is that Suggs’ path to a bonafide first option is narrow while Barnes has more possibilities. Suggs is just too short while not being a lethal shot maker which is what you need to be a superstar at the 1-2 position in this league. Barnes on the other hand has a wider set of outcomes including a lower floor and a higher ceiling.
Suggs will be a winning player and he will look good his entire career. We passed knowing this. The faster we give up the comparisons the better.
Agreed.
But also I think we best make peace with the reality that Suggs and Scottie's careers will be inexorably tied together for many Raptors fans - the two will be compared exhaustively for their entire careers.
Agreed, it’ll be like a poor man’s Luka/Trae sort of thing.
It won’t be as bad as that because I don’t ever see Barnes or Suggs being as dominant as Luka or Trae but their careers will be compared to each other for a long time in the Raptors fandom.
Yeah, there's 3 ways it can go. If both guys are comparable, say they're all-stars with similar impact, we'll be comparing the two forever in endless debate. If Scottie is the superior player, then it'll be like Vince vs Jamison - we'll have comparisons initially which will go away in a couple of years. But if Suggs is the superior player, trolls like Pooh Jeter will remind us about the pick on a daily basis for as long as this board exists.
