I say draft nothing but bigs. I think it's easier to hit once when you get 4 shots as opposed to trying to hit 4 different marks.
Vernon carney question. He's a big strong dude, but he catches lobs, he shotblocks, and floats around under the rim. Occasionally hooks. Am I missing something, or is there no value in that, especially when he have rw3 that can basically do the same.
there aren't more than a handful of dudes his size with his soft touch, inside game, ability to run the floor, with high BBIQ and who can pass. It's hard judging Duke players because Coach K is a fraud, especially lately, who never seems to get the most out of his players or win as much as he should considering the elite talent he recruits year in year out. But I watched every game I could and was always impressed with how he moved on offense and even occasionally he flashed on defense despite being slower of foot. If Baynes can carve out a pretty damn good career in the NBA so can Vernon.
I think he needs to lose some fat and get leaner which should improve his defense. As is he'd struggle mightily. But that's why so many are bad at evaluating prospects, because they view what these players are at 19 y/o instead of what they could be at 24 y/o. I'd use one of our last picks on him if he shows up to workouts looking svelte. Because that would prove he's taking this seriously and wants to improve. If he shows up in the same shape or worse, I'd only take a second round flier on him.
