I don't care if Melo signs the Max Payne as long as it decreases the 2nd year.

CAA leaking this "Melo has Lakers climbing up the ladder in a 3-team race" is all you need to know. Why else would they strategically plant that info out there? Why would Melo be working out with Kobe in LA? Why is Melo taking his time making a decision?
Phil has already offered him the max. If he wanted to be here the ink would be dry already and the Lakers leak would have never been made public. Melo is biding time here. And he's doing that to see if he can land in Chicago!
While the theory makes sense, some of it I cant see becoming reality.
If Chicago is melo first choice, thats where he'll be one way or another, now that he is a free agent unless the Bulls say enough is enough.
Imo melo is in LA because thats where he is every year around this time.
Melo's m.o. has always been max dollars....no irony that 2 of the 3 reported teams with a chance offered it.
The Bulls dont seem to be even in that mix as they've yet to clear the money needed, which they did the last time big free agents were available in 2010....melo being in that mix back then as well.
FWIW a trusted long time poster with legit contacts in the org. noted the Bulls gave Melo 2 options:
-team with Taj, less money (presumably about 15.8 mil starting salary)
-team without Taj starting salary 22 mil (his 4 year max)
Neither option was contingent on a NY sign and trade. It seems the FO lined up deals with other teams to clear the space. So yeah his theory is plausible and the sign and trade is the best option to get Melo his true max 5 yr salary, its not he only option. The fact that what little chatter we have heard is not Bulls focused leads me to believe 2010 is wrong and we aren't his preferred landing spot.

The point was not missed. I'm saying let him walk to the Lakers. He ends up the biggest loser in that scenario and it is better to have him out West.
If he's just using LA and doesn't actually really want to be there, it is an empty threat.
I'd send him off to Chicago if it meant getting a ton of assets and ridding ourselves of JR's contract.
Not going to be stubborn.
What assets?
3 firsts at the very least. Perhaps a second rounder or two. Mirotic. MCD. And they take back JR's contract. We would take Boozer and he can stat stuff and maybe we can even deal him at the deadline for a pick to someone desperate.
I rather do that than end with nothing.

Low picks aren't much and unknowns aren't either. And nobody in their right mind trades for an amnesty candidate.

Could have sworn we traded a pick for Bargs. ..an amnesty candidate.
If you want to keep acting like assets don't matter, then why do you and everyone else get bent out of shape when we trade them away?

Don't worry, not everyone undervalues assets here.

Absolutely, dont let the realgm knicks board cloud any view. This is NOT the pulse of the Knicks fanbase.
It actually is representative of the Knicks fan base. It's just that some voices ring louder than others. The ones who dissent and dissent radically receive more attention. I fully expect the majority of this board to support Melo if he resigns, and to hate him with a passion if he leaves. Anyway, I think the hate Melo receives here on this board is much less than the hate that Jamal Crawford received on this board a while back. That shows me that there are much further levels that this board can go to, but for the most part, most people want him back.

Could have sworn that Grunfeld's not our gm anymore. So to make it clear, yes, trading first round picks for amnesty candidates is a bad thing. Is that what you were looking for?

I also think Melo is hung up knowing the Knicks won't be able to contend next year. He's probably willing to trust Phil w/ building this team quickly, especially in the 2015 summer. I just think he is having a lot of second thoughts about going through another possibly tough year next season.
When this is all over, whatever he does, I will be so thankful. I know how much of a toll this takes on me as a Bulls fan. I cant imagine how hard it is on most of you since it's a Knicks player.

I hate the Chicago Bulls. I miss Derrick, Jo, Taj, Jimmy, Lu, BG, Kirk, Noc….I’ll stop there.

A few more hours...as a Bulls fan I'm sick of it too. Our forum has gone insane. I'll be happy to watch a Bulls team with our two rookies and a healthy Rose. Not gonna let something I have no control wind me up like that.

Some of you guys could easily replace Broussard, "I heard what Melo decision will be/I know what he's thinking and which team he uses as a leverage, multiple sausage"

read my post again. i'm quite aware what we did, and our gm got fired for it.
it isnt whether they are assets....it's a garbage trade.
And if you really know my posting especially on the Bargs trade, I never complained about the picks, I merely was ticked we traded period for him AND the fact he was to be amnestied. the picks were sub material at best.
I didnt want bargs for free....he's the ultimate loser.
