Let's hope no one from ESPN is reading this board...you might give them ideas...

Nah, it puts them in a significantly worse position than Denver is in now when take into account depth.

Justdatdude wrote:You're trying to hard Bluest. Haha. He did nothing wrong by not signing an extension and leaving his options open. There is no reason to exaggerate on this. He's not doing this for spotlight. He's doing this because this is his life and he's trying to do what's best for his life. Let the guy be.
If he signs with the Nets and they bring back Billups and Hamilton that team will be good. I have a hard time believing he is going there without a promise from CP3 or some big named player.

Not at all surprising that execs believe Melo will sign with Jersey. We're talking about $10-$20 million he would be giving up in new CBA

The whole Petro thing is probably an 'out' for a pending deal of Melo says 'no go'. That way the parties involved can keep the pressure on Melo to sign but also save face and say, 'still looking for another team to complete deal'. Trust me, the Nets won't let Petro stop a deal of Melo is signing. They will gladly eat the idea of having to move him if push came to shave and it was holding up the deal.
Seriously... is anyone really falling for that?

Carmelo Anthony is very close to becoming a Net.
“It’s closer,” one source said
“There could be an agreement by tomorrow,” another maintained.
Multiple league sources confirmed that the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons are close to agreeing on a deal that is similar, but not as exact, as the 17-player megadeal that has been discussed. But the primary pieces remain intact in the deal that now has anywhere from a dozen to 15 players. The prized chip, Anthony, would come to the Nets who also would receive Chauncey Billups from Denver and Rip Hamilton from Detroit.
That backcourt, the Nets have felt, would be enough to convince Anthony to accept an extension to play in New Jersey. The Nets, from the very first day, have been confident Anthony would be agreeable and their confidence apparently is about to be rewarded.
“There are a few matters the Nets still have to clean up,” a source maintained.
One matter was Detroit’s reluctance to accept Johan Petro in the deal but a source maintained that the matter could be resolved.
“No details but it is close,” one executive said.

I saw a tweet that said the Knicks should call all of their bluffs and agree to take Petro, lol
