Come on Crowned...he had a bad year, he has a lot to prove this season and again I wouldn't be so hard on him IF you (yourself and JFJ) did not overrate this guy.
I didn't know forecheckers were untouchables in this game.
Alex Steen was not moved for that entire list, meaning, other GM's offered the above packages/players to JFJ. Thus, proving his value throughout the league. Obviously JFJ isn't overrating Steen if several other teams are offering premium packages in exchange for him.
Would Edmonton offer Chris Pronger for a "hard worker that kills penalties"? How about Philadelphia offering the #2 overall draft choice for a "hard worker that kills penalties"?
If we're trading Steen, I want a Gaborik, Camalleri, Jokinen, Horton type player coming back the other way. We'd obviously have to add more, but you get the point. I want a younger player that'll be useful for years to come. Why would you trade a 23 year old center with loads of potential in exchange for a winger that'll be effective for a couple more seasons?
How exactly am I overrating Steen? I'm not basing my comments on his production last season, I'm basing it on his current value. You're getting a little confused there. I'm using the stated offers as an example of how others view Steen throughout the league.
If we didn't just sign Blake, I could understand the trade. However, we don't need to trade away our most prized asset in exchange for another 30+ player.
I think Steen is a 20/25 goal scorer, and will be throughout his career. His first season saw nearly 20 goals, and shot an impressive 10.2 shot %. Let's give Steen more than 2 seasons, and allow him to develop past his 23rd birthday before writing him off as a "forechecker".
I didn't know teams offered MVP defenseman and the #2 overall pick in exchange for a "forechecker" in this game.
