At any rate, it would be a huge gamble that I would not undertake unless I knew for certain that Melo is obtainable. Basically, I'd wait unit the offseason before committing to any of this. It would still work then because NJ has the cap room to absorb the salary differential in a Lewis+Wall for Harris swap.

But assuming this all took place, and we obtained Melo via a straight up signing rather than a trade, our roster would look like this:

PG Harris/Hinrich
SG Young/Hinrich
SF Melo/lotto pick
PF Favors/Booker
C McGee/Blatche

:o

That's a damn good team - an elite team if McGee ever reaches his potential as a rich man's Tyson Chandler. The only real weakness is outside shooting. I'm not thrilled with Harris, Favors and McGee together when none of them have an outside shot. We might be better off starting Hinrich.

This pipe dream is almost as good as my pipe dream of signing Howard in 2012. :D
PG Wall/Hinrich
SG Young/Hinrich
SF Lewis/lotto pick
PF Blatche/Booker
C Howard/Seraphin

But I thought when I keep bringing up Melo's name in the past it was always shot down as not worth talking about because " He isn't coming here "

What part of "pipe dream" did you not understand?

If this trade was available, the Wizards could like do something similar with another expiring in place of Murphy. I think the Wizards could probably send Josh Howard to the Nuggets while shipping Yi, cash and a protected pick off for cap space(TPE or to Minny). It saves Denver a lot of money.

verbal, this seems to fit your criteria:

Wizards send Blatche, Seraphin, Howard, Yi, Thornton, and a protected first for Carmelo Anthony and Gary Forbes.

Wizards roster

PG Wall/Hinrich
SG Young/Hinrich
SF Anthony/Forbes
PF Lewis/Booker
C McGee/N'Diaye

That would be a great roster with Wall and Anthony.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

I'll get laughed at for this trade idea, but I'll say it anyway:
Blatche and filler (Thornton) to Portly for Oden and Donald Williams. Yes, the odds are against Oden ever staying healthy, but you hedge the bet. He's an RFA, and what you do is re-sign him to a 1 year deal to give him a chance to rehab his value. Then, you have the inside track in re-signing him long-term. If he's healthy, he's likely the 2nd best big in the NBA - that's why you take the chance. His per 40 minute stats from last season are 1st team all-starish. If he doesn't make it back next season, ya cut your ties and have more cap room. In the meantime, you get 2 or 3 cheap seasons of Donald Williams - who can run with Wall and be an excellent 3rd guard.

Recent history has shown that Ohio State produces overrated NBA players. Oden is really, really ugly too.

It's worth noting that if we did sign Oden to his qualifying offer, and he took the deal, he would become an unrestricted free agent the following year. We would lose our "inside track", other than having Bird Rights. And as it stands now, we wouldn't need Bird Rights to sign him in the first place because we will have max cap room in 2012 anyhow. Basically, the trade gives us nothing except the opportunity to spend a year convincing him to want to be here. There would be no contractual leverage whatsoever.

I think Conley has turned out pretty much how he was rated - despite the jeers he's received along the way.

And as far as ugly, well... Sam's turned out ok.

I think CCJ is onto something in his attempt to pursue Melo. I don't really like the idea of trading Wall, but maybe it's not necessary.

If, and it's a big if, Melo is willing to play in DC, then all we need to do is beat out NY and perhaps NJ with our offer. NY has nothing to offer except Gallo. If our starting offer is Blatche + our 2011 1st, I think we trump NY. NJ only beats us if they include Favors.

Let's say we trade Blatche + Yi + Howard + 2011 1st for an extended Melo. At that point, we scrap any future free agency plans and just use the MLE to shore up our PF depth:

PG Wall/Hinrich
SG Young/Hinrich
SF Melo/Lewis
PF Lewis/Booker
C McGee/Seraphin

That's a second-tier contender in the East almost immediately. We're not as good as Orlando and Miami, but we're right there with Chicago and Atlanta. If Wall and McGee continue to develop, the sky is the limit. Ideally, we add an MLE big who can rebound, defend and hit an open 17 footer. Josh McRoberts might be the best candidate. There's also Ronnie Turiaf, Kenyon Martin, Troy Murphy or Kris Humphries. I'm probably missing a few. There's also a small chance that Booker improves to the point where he is starting-caliber.

I didn't mean to be condescending by using quotes, but I can see how you got that impression. Sorry about that.

I was merely making sure that by referencing inside track, I was referring specifically to your inference that there would be some sort of contractual advantage on resigning Oden. My point was, there really wouldn't be an such advantage.

No, I wasn't trying to be insulting to you. I just think everyone knew that. I didn't think there was anything in my post that inferred contractual advantage. But I could be wrong. I just thought your post did more to complicate a simple situation.

Lakers are tired of Artest and looking shaky.

Wizards trade Rashard Lewis and Javale McGee.
Lakers trade Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum

I actually thought of a McGee trade I like. :)

Lakers figure they don't want to worry about which explodes first, Artest or Bynum's knees. McGee is popular and can catch lobs from Gasol, Odom, or Kobe. He brings good "crazy" energy. Lewis gives a perimeter presence and scoring as sixth man with Odom at SF.

Wizards get rid of Lewis' contract and get better and then some.

Thoughts?

My question, CCJ, is can Bynum stay healthy? Are injury-prone players worth young up-and-comers like McGee?

No CCJ, Ron Artest doesn't come anywhere near our locker room.

Bynum as a Wizard becomes Yao or Oden. :(

But I think not for a few years. This deal gives the Wizards Artest, Blatche, Bynum with Wall and Young. I think you have to give to get. At worst Lewis is gone and Washington has valuable trade pieces.

Artest won a ring, Bynum was healthy for one and has two. These guys are coveted around the league. The Spurs could use Bynum and the Mavs Artest.

Wall trade idea, Blatche trade idea, and even McGee idea seem to all be more popular than my coaching comments. Go figure. ;)

^ That's because it makes so much sense, CCJ!

Blatche for Brand
McGee for Camby
Wall for Nash

Camby
Brand
Lewis
Howard
Nash

We make a run at the 8th seed for a couple years and then contract the team!

Wizards lost by 12 at Philly after leading midway in the fourth. Flip is 8-25 and 34-81 since EG hired him. John Wall has not saved the day nor has Hinrich. Lewis is a Wizard.

That does Not make sense to me and I have many ideas about what went wrong.
