I say if we're going for a star, I'd rather swing and miss on a bigger/better player even if its a name deemed untouchable or not talked about. De'Aaron Fox fits the mold of the caliber player you clear the deck for. I'd even rate sleepy Ingram over Trae for size alone. Debarge is still living off a playoff run 4 years ago where Ben Simmons was afraid to shoot a layup. If the proverbial whale isn't out there, see how to acquire your own version of some of these impactful role players we see in the playoffs. Worst thing to do aside from standing pat is clearing house for a name just to become a prettier version of the Timmy/Zo Heat - good, but not good enough.

I’ll admit to having buyers remorse on Rozier. I absolutely advocated for the idea of his fit although I wasn’t necessarily happy the terms of the trade.

Regarding Fox, Mia should definitely be back-channeling talks and if there’s any opportunity to get him, they should put the “Dame package” on the table.

Speaking of Dame, anyone who was in favor of acquiring him last off season, I would assume should also be in favor of pursuing Trey this off season.

Ability wise, Trey offers basically the same pros and cons that Dame does only he’s around 10 years younger.

Realistically, I don’t think either guy is attainable though.

Rozier will be really good after a full offseason recovering from his neck injury and gelling with the team from training camp. He was on an upward trajectory until he got hurt, and still has a very good contract.

Rozier will be fine.

You also don’t miss out on Mitchell/Trae/Fox/DJM because you have Rozier

Rozier will be fine with a full offseason to recover. Plus if we draft a good guard defender like Devin Carter and decide on either Rozier or Herro to come off the bench our guard rotation will be good. Especially if Wright comes back

Lol why do the Pistons even need Ingram?? They need to be hoarding draft picks and not max out middling talent without a good floor. Awful move for them.

They’ve been a bottom 3 team each of the last 3 years. 4 top 10 picks in the last 4 years, and a 5th player that was drafted #1 overall by another team and a lot of money to spend in free agency. Now is the time to cash in on some of these god awful assets for at least a functional player, sign some quality pieces and get Cade some help.

Cashing in the 5th pick whom most mocks have them taking Matas Buzelis a major project for Ingram does make some sense. As the reporter mentioned you have a team like the Pistons with a bunch of money and may be the only team willing to give what Ingram wants and has the same agent as Cunningham(our guy Jeff Schwartz). Teams like the Pistons have to overpay money wise for players like Ingram. They need to start committing to getting Cunningham help. Langdon and Ingram are both Duke guys. Getting the 5th pick would allow the Pels to take a PG like Sheppard or Dillingham or flip it again for Garland.

Devin Carter is the type of rookie you draft to play immediately. A mature upperclassmen like Jaquez or Tristan Da Silva with NBA ready skills. If he's not playing significant minutes pretty soon, either you're kinda wasting him or he's not an nba player.

We are so spolied. Our team is in a good spot. We have Bam who is still young. We have JJJ and Jovic who can take a leap easily. We have all our picks. We are fine. Even if we miss on Mitchell this team will be fine.

Sounds a lot less done deal than some thought based on prior reports re Cavs confidence. Was firing JB the big play to entice Donovan? How close to the vest has Donovan kept things? The money advantage is most concerning IMO. Is this indication that CLE intends to offer 4 years instead of the max 5? What's the contract difference between what CLE is reportedly going to offer and what any new team he's traded to can offer?

I'll hold out a sliver of hope for now.

I could be wrong but I believe the only difference is the Cavs can offer an extra year, but then if a team traded for him I don’t see why that also wouldn’t be the case? I know he’s not eligible for the Supermax because he was traded from Utah so that at least is not an obstacle but I believe I saw the only difference was that extra year

Thanks--that makes sense. I gotta refresh myself on these intricacies every offseason.

If CLE isn't even offering the 5-year extension then its just Mitchell deciding where he wants to play and actually having some reasonable agency to do so for the first time in his career.
