Shaq admitted his true height

Guys, I don't know if you realize how inexact a science this "Look at them next to each other" measurement technique is. Even if you think they're both upright and equidistant from the camera, there are other factors that can throw off perception. Please stop.

And for the record, since I'm seeing height guesses thrown out for the two: Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant both measured exactly 6-9 barefoot.

Watched a Celtics game from the fifth row and Shaq is definitely talled than KG. And KG is really huge, definitely at least 6'11''

I think it's pretty certain that Durant has grown since entering the league. He certainly has grown since his freshman year in college when he was listed as 6'10.

If he grew just an inch barefoot, that'd make him 7 feet in shoes. Which is insane.

A lot of NBA players are listed taller than what they were. The only one might be listed shorter than what he actually is probably be Kevin Durant.

There are at least 3 players we know of in the last 35 years who are actually taller than their officially listed heights, Walton, Garnett, & Durant.

Below we can see West in his 70's (listed at 6'2), standing next to a man who was once officially listed by the NBA at 6'7.

Problem with this Pic is Jerry is wearing hard bottom shoes which adds to your height more than sneakers. If you believe Kobe is only 6'3 (which he isnt) then wade is like 6'1

After college, i went to four D-league tryouts. i'm really 5'9, but they kept listing me at 5'11. their was even one try out where the guy wasn't even using a measuring tape or tool, he was just asking guys their height, i told him 5'10, then he said to me "are you sure your not 6'0", i told him no, but if i said yeah, he wouldn't have had a problem in listing me at 6'0.

i also went to some arena football league tryouts, and they were alot more concern about being accurate, they listed me at 5'9.25

Hakeem is 6'10" by his own admission alonzo is 6'9.5" barefoot.

You know pretty much every player drafted since 91 has their barefoot heights listed including 7'1" barefoot shaq. Just check here, i'm dumbfounded about how it seems so few people know this.

Hakeem was definitely around 6'10", probably 6'11" in shoes. Ewing was a smidge taller - I'd guess 6'11" barefoot and 7'0" in shoes.

If I had to guess barefoot heights...

Shaq - 7'1"
D-Rob - 7'0"
Ewing - 6'11"
Duncan - 6'11"
Hakeem - 6'10"
Alonzo - 6'9.5"

West himself had said he was slightly over 6'4 barefoot, while Kobe has said his wife measured him at just under 6'5 barefoot (6'4 3/4).

One more thing - John Starks being listed at 6'5" was a joke. It's clear that most players have embellished heights but come on...

Measurements prior to 2000 are based on newspaper articles rather than official league documents. While the measurements reported in such articles are reported to be officially from the predraft camp, we are taking those writers at their word and can not completely verify that information.

Add a inch and a half with shoes and round up. Most times they do that. Most 7+ footers are listed without sneakers though (Yao, Shaq, Bol, Bradley, etc).

This is indeed true but i doubt these newspaper articles are pulling numbers from their ass. Most of them list the height to the decimal point. I can see reason for people affiliated with teams to fudge numbers but not reporters reporting from draft-camp. I mean we might as well not believe any news coming from reporters at that point.

Frankly it is by far the best we have going on as opposed to trying to compare random photos and analyze the angles etc. and as you can see there has been little reason to cast doubt on shaq's pre-draft listing.

Huh? His knee is bent because he's up on his toe. His other leg is completely straight.
