This is true. But this will also go back to who AK and Donovan want to keep, and also who on the Bulls has value.
At the same time, I'd be willing to take back an injured player, if they have a decent chance of recovery and long term value and fit. I would also be willing to take back long term salary, even if only for veteran leadership.
So, for example, while I don't think the Thunder would do it (because they are thinking the same thing), I'd happily swap Otto Porter for Al Horford - despite that being "bad cap" for a few years. Mostly because I think Horford could help the team become "good" in the next couple of years, but there's pretty much zero chance the Bulls become contention level within this and the following 2 seasons.
Very few guys out there right now of the Al Horford mold, though - guys who are still good enough to start for most teams, and have the vet credibility of being formerly top notch players to really impact younger guys. Derrick Rose, maybe, but does he have the personality? CP3 (which is why the Suns got him). Maybe Russ (but he comes with his own issues). Maybe Aldridge and Derozan, who will be FA, but don't seem to be guys who would be ok being on bad teams.
