We know what Pat can do. He's a solid guy off the bench but nothing more and I doubt he ever will be. Shot is too inconsistent, defense is overrated but he has good games here and there and is a team player.

Maybe eventually...but I don't like the idea of starting a rookie big man at the start of the season. Its tough enough to adjust to the NBA game in general. Don't like the idea of throwing on the need to avoid committing fouls as well.

He really wouldn't need to avoid fouls though. With Patterson playing 28 MPG (he should be doing this regardless) and Carroll probaby getting closing minutes at PF (say, 5 MPG split between the 2nd and 4th Q's), he'd only need to carry 15 MPG, even as a starter. Even historically bad foulers tend to be able to survive 15-20 minutes.

If Poetl can develop a respectable 3 point shot this offseason, then I wouldn't mind seeing him start. If what Casey said was true about his mobility being faster than JV's, then we could have some success with this similar to what the Knicks implement with Porzingod at the 4.

I am an overly positive guy, especially when it comes to our teams. That being said with Durant and West going to GSW, Wade possibly going to Cleveland and Boston probably big contenders in the Westbrook sweepstakes even I have to say it does not look like we will be real title contenders this year. Why not start some of the youth to see what they can bring especially If we are not making any significant moves or taking flyers on guys like Terrence Jones. We know what Ppat brings to the table already.

I do agree though, Ppat with a consistent 3 ball would do wonders for this team.

You have no idea if he can play at the NBA level. None. The biggest challenge playing that position in the NBA is covering the pick and roll. After a year or two, this might be an option but for the love of God you are asking too much of him.

I don't think Masai would have drafted him if he weren't ready for it. They didn't want 2 rookies, so they reached on a guy who they though could contribute most likely.

This board is completely out to lunch on what it expects rookies to contribute.

JV is in his 4th year and has NEVER averaged over 28 MPG and some people are asking for Poetl to play 30 MPG, out of position on a supposed playoff contender.

There is a reason we have been linked to every other big man on the market. Siakam is not going to be in the rotation and if you think you are even a pseudo contender you aren't going to be relying on a rookie big man to be a major contributor.

a) They didn't reach for anything.
b) They didn't pick him cause he can contribute right away.. That is such a myth.

It would be awesome and amazing if Siakam contributed rotation minutes right away, but I promise you no one in the organization is expecting it.

Poeltl will be lucky to get 20mins a game... let alone Siakam

He's a mental midget and isn't capable of starting.

At this rate, I'm thinking we might be forced to go with the Lowry, Demar, Powell, Carroll, JV lineup.

What a genious way to develop a player. Force-feed them minutes out of position!

there are no pfs in te league available for us to trade for. all the good ones are either concerstones for franchises (like davis and cousins) or are rly old and in contract yrs (milsap -31)

really arent options. I think a sign a trade for leonard might be a great move, hes shown flashes of breaking out. portland hasnt given him money cus neil oshly wants to push for free agents with big names.

the only way masai trades is if its a salary dump, pretty much all his trades were salary dumps to either take on salary or get rid of it while avquiring a pick. hes not made a trade where hes given anything like a good player to immediately return with another good player.

thats why I say hes fools gold. he gets lucky. he didbt expect powell to be a first rounder. ppl dont realize the kinds of trades masai has made. what has he done? hes gotten trades done to clear salary or gain salary. hes scouted talent in the draft and he sometimes gets lucky with norman powell rly making him look good the same way that the rudy gay trade made him look hood and the same way that thr knicks trade look good cus he got luxky. all of those trades were unexpected to turn out the way they did. he doesnt make a trade where he trades a good player and gets back another good player. for example, trading valancuinas for another good player like derrick favors--juat an example.

dont be fooled by masai, hes a good scout, an eye for underrated signings and talent, but he got extremely lucky so dont hail him like hes the best gm, timing is everything. colangelo may have done knee jerk trades but colangelo is the one who brought lowry derozan ans valancuinqs in.

Don't forget when he tried to trade Lowry for a bag of Doritos.

He did say "**** Brooklyn" though, that was sweet.

Pat needs to get an off season training program and come into camp ready.

No more film festivals. We can't wait three months for his shot to come back this year.

He's got all the tools, he just has to focus.

I'm okay with PP starting for us next season, the hole at PF is waiting to be filled by Wiggins. He's the perfect stretch 4 we need

Patterson did NOT want to start. He's been successful coming off the bench and plays real well with the second unit. Why do people glaze over this.

He was basically handed the starting job to start last year and flopped so hard we had to start Scola. I have no faith in him being a consistent starter. At this point I start Carrol at 4 and Powell at the 3. Terrence Ross and 2Pat are not starters in this league.
why was hakeem called "the dream"??"

Because it rhymes with 'Olajuwon'.

Mods, just ban this guy.

I figured that was a fair request if we didn't have the same opinion.

Agreed.

Lowry+Second Unit (Cojo/Ross/PPat/Biz) was the RS driving force in the 56 wins. That's a lineup that played perimeter pressure defense, backed by quality P&R big defense and rim protection along with an offense that featured quality screening, ball penetration and shooting. It overwhelmed other team's second units and either put the Raps opponents in big holes, forced opposing starters back in early or covered for the starters getting abused.

I can see Powell replacing Ross in that unit this coming season without drop off, but as of right now there is a big hole in the rim protection department and if you move PPat to the starting group, you now have no P&R defense and no rim protection which means Lowry/Cojo/Powell won't be able to play that aggressive style of pressure defense that was effective. Maybe if BeBe "gets it" he can competently fill the rim protector role even through he'll give up some of the P&R defense that Biz provided, but if you put Bebe beside any other big on the roster not name Patterson, that second unit success will fall apart real fast.

Could you quantify "flopped so hard"? You mean he tested stuff out, didn't take a single three and still shot better than DeMar through the first 4 games of pre-season (after which he was benched, and yet DeRozan was not)? He was fine and there was no sense at all behind moving him to the bench. A move which seemingly resulted in him starting his coldest shooting two months of his recent career coming off the bench.

1) Masai, Casey, the players have all said Val is ready for a bigger role. He showed flashes in the playoffs of dominating both offensively and defensively in the post-season last year. He has lost weight, become more quicker, and I think was inspired by and closely watched Bismacks impact on the game for our team, trying to emulate his paint play when he stepped in near the end of the year. Getting a PF who needs higher usage than Patt but isn't a star to take us to the next level hinders Vals progress.

Val has been ready for a bigger role for years, I won't believe a single thing Masai or Casey have to say until I see it flow through in the games in the form of touches.

Patt lost the starting PF job during the preseason, he couldn't hit a three pointer to save his life. He did finish the season strong compared to Scola who lost his legs. I'm willing to give Patt a shot once again and if he can't then Poeltl should be slotted in.

Patterson literally missed zero three pointers prior to being benched during the pre-season.
