The fact that we are even being mentioned with other teams for top FA's is good enough for me right now. This never would have happened under Kohl.

Free Agency Thread - Will meet w/Monroe, pg. 18

Post#402 » by JHSFIVE » Mon Jun 29, 2015 3:50 am

I really think that everyone is seriously overvaluing Jordan. He's easily the worst offensive player out of all mentioned.... Including kk and rolo. I mean, he really doesn't even seem to have any kind of bb iq either. Whatever rift he has w cp3, he needs to get over it because cp3 is a major part of this big payday Jordan has coming.

This team's defense isn't the problem.

The same can maybe be said for chandler but he seems a lot more intelligent w the pick n roll offense(YouTube has many Kidd/chandler highlights) and chandler was a 72% ft shooter last year.

Also, as much as most of you are shouting to get rid of zaza I just don't think it's gonna happen... And I'm actually pretty happy with that. He is a very smart player and he's a pretty decent extension of Kidd out on the court..... Keep in mind, I didn't say he plays like Kidd did. I'd love him in the 2nd unit and spot starts if/when our potential FA C can't.

People forget they closed that loophole with the 2011 CBA. DeAndre can only get from Dallas a four year deal at whatever Dallas is allowed to pay him under the CBA even if he was sign and traded there.

That's what is so great about that CBA. Otherwise we'd have 80 stories about DeAndre, LMA, etc demanding the big bird rights contract and the trade to the Lakers along with it.

Ah, my bad. That's just weird to me because there are other ways to pull it off. Like with the Harden trade I guess it just works because the trade occurred before free agency.

But regardless, even with bird rights, and no matter what numbers you spit out, they could be nearly 50% higher one season later. It's an offseason that presents a unique situation that the league might never see again. Not that any of this really matters to us, though, since Jordan's decision is most likely between California and Texas.

Stein mis-attributed that to Gery eh? Lolz. I think he was referring the Kurt Helin report of Knight at 5 yrs $70 million. So glad we're not paying him that.

Brewhoop did a rundown update of where we are at in free agency, and has some good material on Monroe:

http://www.brewhoop.com/2015/6/28/8860037/greg-monroe-deandre-jordan-tyson-chandler-nba-free-agency-2015-bucks

Defensively, Monroe has been an above-average rebounder throughout his career, averaging a double-double per 36 minutes each of the past four seasons. But he's hardly a prototypical defensive center; he's not a rim protector and doesn't have the quickness to handle quick fours or the ideal size to battle with elite offensive bigs. Nevertheless, his encouraging defensive RPM of +2.29 last season suggests his IQ makes up for a lot, and his splits at center are encouraging on both ends.

Here is the Frank Isola report from April saying Monroe to NY:

http://m.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/isola-no-secret-knicks-eyes-pistons-greg-monroe-article-1.2181678

Maybe the worst kept secret in the NBA is that Phil Jackson plans to pursue Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe in free agency this summer. In fact, one league executive called it “about as close to a done deal as you can get.”

A done deal is illegal of course and would open Jackson and the Knicks to tampering charges. A more likely scenario is that representatives from both parties have made their interest known and will proceed accordingly once the free-agent recruiting period begins on July 1st. It happens all the time.

Still, the talk among scouts and executives who attended the Portsmouth Invitational is that Monroe is Jackson’s primary free-agent target. It’s easy to connect the dots; Monroe’s agent, David Falk, is one of the few agents that Jackson has a relationship with going back more than 20 years when Falk was representing Michael Jordan. Falk is looking for a max contract for Monroe and the Knicks, coming off the worst season in franchise history, are happy to oblige.

Zaza couldn't even dream of 15 ppg on 50% shooting and that's basically Monroe's career stats. His defense needs work but he'd be an interesting piece of he can be taught to play position defense.

The one guy I always think of is Mo when he went to the Cavs. The proper motivation can make anybody play defense.

Again I don't see it. We don't improve from spending big money on a guy who will take shots off the core guys to score at pedestrian efficiency. We need role players not **** stars.

I hear ya. But the only thing that matters is being able to get them to sign here.

You're under this illusion that our core guys are prepared to be #1 and 2 go-to scorers on a 50+ win team. They're not. Jabari is recovering. Giannis can't shoot yet and often over passes. They may not even grow into those roles. You can't take that for granted. I'd bet a lot on it with Jabari, but Giannis is more up in the air. It's a bridge you could cross anyway when you come to it. You gotta take the established core player like Monroe when you can get them.

But then MCW really should be sent packing because his lack of shooting just isn't going to work with a guy like Monroe in the same lineup. I still daydream of prying Schroeder away from Atlanta with Teague an all-star. Schroeder/Middleton/Parker/Giannis/Monroe would be the best transition team God ever created. Buku fan ingratiation and plenty of wins to come with it. Plus, Monroe nor Jabari would have to play as much halfcourt d.

I pray we don't sign Monroe. I think Monroe and Kanter are both losing players. Above Average Offensive Centers who have terrible Defensive reputations usually do not impact teams positively very much.

I'll take Koufus over any of these guys mentioned. I'll take him over rolo too.

The worries that he's a dufus are overblown. I remember pryzbilla training at a boxing gym, maybe Koufus could study under duke Rufus? He's right here in Milwaukee. Lupus is a definite red flag too.

But in all actuality, he probably is cheaper and does all of the things we are looking for (anchors the D, has range to 18 feet, finishes close to the rim). I don't get why Monroe is even part of the discussion, he's only pretending to interview with other teams to squelch tampering charges against the Knicks when he surprises no one by signing there on July 1st.

I don't want to offend anyone on here who may be in a similar boat to him, but I desperately do not want to be regularly watching Koufos' hairline.

Why not? I for one would enjoy watching it gently retreat backwards on his scalp and then settle down on his shoulders.

Ognjen Kuzmic should still be a target. He's going to be a nice rotation player somewhere soon.

I just love that we are in the running for anybody. I don't think they are all great fits, but the fact that we are a player, and maybe a power player in free agency is a welcomed change from the hot stink garbage we have been dealing with for over a decade.

I'm open to pretty much any of these options. I think that Brook Lopez is probably the worst of the options, but I would get over it. Monroe, RoLo, BroLo, Jordan, or Chandler sounds like the best offseason race I have seen us hanging around.

I just don't see the fit.

We tend to go after good character, defense, length, and players capable of playing multiple positions.

From a team balance perspective, we don't have an inside post presence and definitely need the rebounding. I would love for my C to have a post game, but if forced to choose, I would choose defense over post offense for this team.

Obviously since its highly unlikely to get the one well rounded C in FA, Gasol, we have to go after a less than perfect player.

Gasol - Would break the bank for him and I'd let him know that. He's not interested and stayin put.

Jordan - Honestly good defense, shot blocking and league leading rebounding is probably not worth his beyond terrible FT%, glad he's not interested, I feel like we could have dodged a bullet. No interest in a wanna b Shaq with even less skills.

Monroe - Overpay for less than stellar character and a guy who doesn't defend? Oh and lets not forget his best skill is offense, inefficient offense at that. Oh goodie where do I sign?

Chandler - Perfect fit, great character, a little old. So what? He's our man, go get him.

Middleton and Chandler would be a great summer haul. Make a trade or 2 to balance things out and we will have a nice little team next year.
