and I even like him more than you do, but dude isn't going to be that level playmaker at the next level. That wouldn't even be using him to his strengths when he is such a weapon off ball.
Here’s my question to that lets say the plan going forward is to put the ball in RJ’s hand for him to attack..... would he the. be a good match?
I guess my issue with that is I don't think RJ is a #1 playmaking option. I think he's a secondary guy. I also believe Haliburton is a secondary playmaking guy. So my issue is now we would have two secondary guys but still missing a guy that would be our main guy.
If you believe RJ can eventually be a 20+-7-7 guy I suppose or something to that extent then yes having a guy like Haliburton would be more acceptable. And im not even suggesting I wouldn't trade Haliburton (I would take him in my top 8). I just wouldn't take him in my top 5. I think there are higher potential guys in that group.
I specifically don't trust either RJ or in this case as you are putting it Haliburton to be a main facilitator of the offense due to his inability to consistently get into the paint. I think that will ultimate limit him to more of a C&S, move the ball around the perimeter, decent P&R player. He also struggles to shoot of the dribble so he has limitations there as well.
His main benifits come off lower usage and most likely with thrive with player(s) who can get into the paint to collapse the defense where he can use his shooting and smart passing to beat the defense.
Just as some believe LaMelo and RJ aren't a great match because they both are weak shooters. One could make the match that Haliburton and RJ while being a decent ying/yang in terms of skill set. Would you trust either one long term to be the main playmaker on a championship ball club?
If you are adding him to be another complimentary piece...then I totally understand that and buy that logic.
