Both in the scope of what that means for that company and what it means for that company's competition (and the way NBA teams compete between them vs the way normal companies do). That's why we usually talk about players as assets, their value to a franchise is more similar to buying significant shares from another company than it is to hire a regular employee.
And I'm pretty sure you can look under this front office's hood and you'll find nothing but a perfectly tuned engine. Like I said before, I'm pretty sure they're not doing this recklessly as a desperate way to throw a prayer for a FA. If they're being this deliberate, it's because they determined these particular two guys will react positively to this kind of public love. They didn't talk to Nike btw, what Stein's report says is they "looked into" it, it implies the conversation never got out of the Clippers' offices. Which if I had to bet, it probably means they leaked it themselves as a way to tell Kawhi, we know how much you care about this logo, don't think there's anything we won't do if you come. Which again, they probably determined is something he's gonna love to hear.
What you or the Warriors guy feel about optics is just that, your feelings about optics. And they probably thought about what doing all of this would mean in that sense too. And I don't think it means a lot, and apparently they didn't either.
I'm VERY comfortable with my profession and where I work, so no offense taken. IDC.
Make the scenario a board offering for a top CEO's services. If one company seems more desperate than the other, the CEO would be foolish to just say, "well, they're just doing what it takes to acquire me".
Didn't you just try to argue me down saying that clearing out house in LAL and giving Ujiri the keys STILL wouldn't be enough?

Another more apt comparison than tender offers. Even in that scenario, I don't disagree that the Lakers look desperate. They would be desperate in that fake scenario. They are desperate now. I just think it's a more attractive destination than you do.
And, I don't disagree with the portion of looking under the Clipper's hood at all which is why I said, we don't need to be thirsty. NONE OF IT (it being the thirsty stuff) is what made him want to be traded here from the Spurs. We were literally sitting here minding our damn business and he essentially fell into our lap and now we act like we have to do this and that to acquire him. FOH.
The Clippers leaking that themselves is worse to me.
It's not just optics. You are saying yourself that YOUR view of it is they've done the homework on how they are behaving and they believe he will like it, so NO. You can't give me the positive version of why the behavior is good and why the motive behind it is probably good and then say, "it's just optics" when I disagree. That's also indirectly appealing to authority - shutup because someone "smarter" than you thought about this - as if a front office can't get it absolutely wrong.
