Plus at times tough to keep the regions/factions straight (also crazy some of these regional arguing still exists today there). But I didn't find it overly hard to follow, maybe with an occasional double check to make sure. But if you're into the general medieval type stuff with tons of gratuitous violence it should fill the void. Some of game of thrones aspects but without the fantasy elements. Also loosely based on best guesses on historical stuff from those days, which is interesting to some.
It's also not a ton of episodes so it's not a massive commitment. I did Vikings recently too and that was too much, dragged on a ton, while also having some of the same issues described above (plus some others).
The middle seasons of Vikings when it's full stoned and incoherent Ragnar were not good at all. Thought they did a decent job wrapping it up though.
I liked the first season of the new Vikings show on Netflix. It features Harald Hardrada who had a really interesting real life having spent time in east with the Rus and then time with the byzantine empire. If they do it right it should be a good story.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.
