Re: Ford Mock 6.0 #2 Embiid
Maybe this has been brought up but would anyone do this?
If Wiggins goes 1
we take Embiid at 2
Trade Sanders to the Lakers for the 7 pick and Steve Nash (Contract)
we take Smart at 7
Do you think the Lakers would do this to get rid of Nash's dead weight and get a player they can use.

Smart is the only guy outside of the top 4 I would consider moving Sanders for.

no. i think the lakers would rather just take someone like vonleh/smart and roll with it, especially since they'll be trying to save cap room for kevin love after this season.

In college he could get away with that, but not in the pros.
I still remember his rookie year, Dog was a turnover machine, averaging four of them a game. In fact, in his first four seasons, these were his turnover averages.

That's a ton for a non-PG. It was pretty crazy though compared to today's NBA when Glenn and Sammie were teammates in just how great both were at the mid-range jump shot. Now teams basically beg offenses to take mid-range jumpers, but with good reason because so few players today can consistently make them.
I actually read an article not too long ago about the value of players that have a good mid-range game. It was basically an explanation of why Carmelo Anthony is more valuable and efficient on offense than people give him credit for... because he is a guy that you can't let shoot from midrange or else he will dominate. I actually agree with what the article said too, being able to shoot in that inbetween area is huge and it makes the defense go away from the typical (and smart) strategy of "run them off of the three point line, then protect the paint".
I will say that I think the thing that stopped Big Dog from being a stud in the NBA was that he didn't have a great work ethic. I think he could have been a 25+ PPG scorer that could have had a TS% of at least 55%+ and a great rebounder for a 3. He just didn't seem to care all that much. He had a doughy body and his game never really developed as the years went along. It was kind of a testiment to his talent that he was as good as he was.

Every time Big Dog put the ball on the floor it was an adventure.

It would be epic but I think the chances of either are slim, let alone both. We're going to have to come to terms with the fact that we are going to miss out on Embiid.

The most amazing thing in this thread is that someone likes Bill Walton.

I don't stay up late to watch Pac-12 games (wish I did though, I love Bill Walton) and really didn't pay any attention to Gordon until the NCAA tournament. So maybe that was a really common comparison, but I never heard it until recently. I think Gordon has a better shot than Marion. Marion had one of the ugliest shots in the history of the league, though to his credit, he made it work.
Marion is significantly better at shooting than Gordon. Shawn always has had nice touch on floaters and weird runners and he's sort of become known for that. Gordon is obviously an awful FT shooter, but he's also equally terrible from everywhere else in the midrange. He hit a few 3s towards the end of the year that people seem to be putting too much stock in, considering the really small sample size and his absolute ineptitude from everywhere else.
I don't think the comparison is terrible though, just highly doubt that Gordon ever approaches levels Marion reached. I'm a bit skeptical of Gordon defending on the perimeter, I don't like how upright he sits in his stance and his balance doesn't look good in that regard. I'm also notoriously wary of guys who should be playing inside but think/want to be perimeter players. It just screams lack of self awareness and never seems to work out. Fr example, I really liked Derrick Williams as a PF prospect until predraft came along and he was touting himself as a Carmelo type SF, then I knew it was done.

Re: Ford Mock 6.0 #2 Embiid
you're pretty spot on with your gordon analysis. He's not going to be able to defend the perimeter like Marion but realistically not many guys can. Gordon is bigger than Shawn and with his athleticism he could be a ridiculous pick and roll defender from the 4 spot.. like best in the league good. One skill they do seem to share is they have a great feel for rebounding and a crazy quick second jump.mattg wrote:PkrsBcksGphsMqt wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:really? Youre right that gordon might never be as good as Marion but really that's some lofty comparisons considering Marion is a border line hall of famer imo. If gordon is 75% the player Marion was the team who takes him will be super stoked.
Edit- Marion has a career .485 shooting %, will pass 10,000 rebounds next yr. And is one of 5 players in NBA history with 1500 steals and 1000 blocks. One of the most underrated guys of his generation.

Definitely! Don't know if Smart will be there at 7 though....

If you don't enjoy bill Walton's commentary you're a square and probably the most boring person to hang out with.

Bill Walton is awesome. I wish he would still call games.
Surprised they didn't get him out for a Blazers playoff game.

I'd rather listen to Walton hallucinate during games than listen to a lot of the guys ESPN has now. Tirico and Hubie are horrible.

I used to enjoy Walton, but I caught a game of him broadcasting this year and it was absolutely brutal.

Yep. Hubie Brown is awful. He uses the color man spot to get off on his coaching obsession. Put the coaching boner away.

Re: Ford Mock 6.0 #2 Embiid
Embiid gaining 15lbs in 2 months is a negative in my opinion. It would be impossible to naturally gain that in muscle. So hes probably gained at least 10lbs of fat. The leaves 2 negative options to me; hes been lazy since the season ended or hes had to rest his back. If its the back it kind of shoots down the whole "he could have played in the tourny if..." theories. I love his talent but I cant get over the back thing. Maybe Im just overreacting, I dont know.
