Gives you a chance to go up 9, make it a 2 possession game. The reward is far greater than the risk.

There's basically no difference between a 7 or 8 point lead, it's still a one possession game. Getting it up to 9 makes it a two possession game and there's no disadvantage because if you don't make it you're still up by a TD and extra point.

Yeah, remember if you get tackled behind the line with possession you lose the yards so often you'll see QBs prefer an incompletion

But there was over a quarter to play still. You never know what’s going to happen the rest of the game. Too much time left to go for two

A two possession lead is always better than a one possession lead no matter the time especially with no risk of trailing if the opponent scores a touchdown.
