They're 4/5 seeds with little signs of improving on that. They're not running away with anything from an MVP perspective. The lowest seed you're going to find in the last 30 years to win MVP is Jordan in 88 as a T-3rd seed. He put up 35/6/6 +3 stls 1.5 blks as the best offensive player in the game and the DPOY. Just a bit of perspective.

so from that perspective can we say kyrie irving has more chances than westbrook or harden?

Sure. Throw in Klay Thompson while you're at it. Or discuss actual MVP candidates, up to you.

In case you missed my point, it's not that those two are not two of the top candidates, just that it's silly to assume they're running away with anything based on everything we know about how this award is voted. And MJ was clearly the best overall player in the NBA in 88(literally the DPOY). Definitely not a claim most would make about either of these two.

personally i think thats complete bs. i mean. A superstar can only do so much to win games. harden and westbrook are playing amazing and there teams are winning. thats what matters

Maybe to you. But the reality of the voting certainly disagrees. As it stands nobody is running away with this.

Depending on where we finish, I give Kyle Lowry a darkhorse for this award. Even when DeRozan was going prime Jordan on the league, I still felt Lowry impacted the game in more areas, it's just that he came into the season shooting like Ricky Rubio for some reason. DeMar saved us in a lot of games where Lowry couldn't buy a bucket. Now that he's gotten his shot back he's looking like the second best player in the east again.

Lowry has literally 0% chance of winning this competition and rightfully so. If Lowry is the 2nd best in the east = 7-8th in the west.

Yeah, I would easily take both of them over Lowry. Some next level homerism there.

I couldn't choose right now, but If I'd have to, I would go with Durant. He is having a historic season so far, is on the best team, and he raised his game on the defensive end too. If they win 5-6 more games than anybody else, I would give the award to him without hesitation.

Both Westbrook and Harden have increased their chances with both the Cavs and Clippers recent loses.
Still it is a very open MVP race.

It's an easy choice, not that they're far superior to him. Though I don't know who would take Lowry over either of them other than Raptor fans.

I don't even like Westbrook (he's still a chucker) but to be close to averaging 31 / 11 / 11 has never been seen in my lifetime.

And he's actually winning games unlike previous seasons where he was one out.

I don't think this style of play is necessarily good to win a championship (if that fits into MVP criteria), but this is the season for him to just play pure Westbrook style.

He's not a "chucker" and I don't get the second sentence. He's always won games.

Here are the On/Off ratings for the Warriors so far. Curry is easily the most valuable.
Curry- 21.5
Green-9.8
Durant- 9.3

How the hell is the difference between Green and Steph so big? They play almost identical minutes.

legitimate question, they rarely play without each other. maybe 20 minutes all season.. :-?

Same for me.

With him OKC is one of the top offenses. Without him the team is one of the worst in the NBA.

111 ORTG with Russ on vs 96.9 ORTG with him off.

I can't say that any other MVP candidate has as big of an on/off impact on their team except maybe Harden, but even without James the Rockets at least have an ORTG above 100.

You are obviously joking, but he wasn't great. Well, unless you quantify a triple double as "great no matter the context", I certainly do not. He did not shoot the ball well, stole numerous rebounds from his teammates who were often in better position, and had 10 turnovers.
