Apt comparison but in a more general sense the Knicks are and will forever be Tottenham

Tottenham are actually the Raptors under MLSE and their puppet BC. Knicks are more like Aston Villa.

United is similar to the Lakers. After a century of success a rapid change in the most important person at the clubs retires (Ferguson/Jackson) and the successors fail to continue the business. While trying to rebuild they struggle to add the right balance to the teams and the supposed superstars acquisitions are either redundant to the existing star players and their position (Dwight, Pau/Rooney, van Persie, Falcao, Kagawa, Mata) or fail (Nash/Fellaini).

Actually I think a better comparison for united would be the Spurs post-Popovich. Man that team is going to be a mess once he retires.

The Spurs are the antithesis to huge market teams like United.

So was united 30 years ago. Sir Alex changed all that. You think players are coming to Manchester for the scene?

Imagine the Spurs brand with Pops if the NBA was a free market.

Yup. The Busby Babes, record transfer signings in the 70s, Big Ron's moderate success in the early 80s, etc. United always had an air of glamour to them.

The 70s and 80s belonged to Liverpool. United had very little success then. No better than the Spurs, just a deeper pocket. And you guys must be having a laugh comparing the success in the 50s and whether that had anything to do with transformation the club has taken in the past 2 decades. The market was not the same and the circumstances were different.

The Busby Babes are not the reason United is the biggest global sport brand today. Did it carved the way? yes, so did the Munich disaster unfortunately. But 80% of it had to do with the Fergie era.

United is not GLOBAL united without the last 20 years of on-field, and off-field success (Beckham brand,etc.). You'd be erasing the majority of it's history and quite frankly the reason it's THE global brand in sports. And I'm not saying this to devalue the history that was before us, I'm simply stating the facts. Teams like Leeds and Wolves had great history too, that doesn't amount to anything in today's football, otherwise they'd still be playing in the 1st flight.

I don't think the Dailymail would have seen anything glamorous about getting relegated in the mid-70s.

United was like the Patrick Ewing Knicks before SAF, some history of heroic success tinged by tragedy, expensively assembled, in the mix for titles and glory, but just not good enough to overcome the powerhouses of their day.

And now I've been forced to remember that the Knicks weren't always the team they've been for the past twelve years and this have made myself sad.

Reus would probably be a better fit for United or Arsenal, given that he's always injured.

That was a horrible tackle though. Lucky he didn't break his ankle.

PSG put in a £64M bid for Isco  English media somehow take that to mean if Arsenal or Liverpool match the fee, he's their player. As if Madrid were going to let go of the brightest young Spanish player and an integral cog in our team now that Modric is out for a couple months  They all ought to make like City and **** off eventually :D

There seems to be some real interest from us for Lucas Silva of Cruzeiro though. Haven't been keeping up with Porto but apparently Casemiro's been doing well enough that we're entertaining the possibility of keeping him with the squad next year instead of another loan spell. None of this is surprising since Khedira has yet to sign any kind of extension beyond this summer.

Gooners capitalizing on the rule that U18's can't be offered a professional contract in Spain (I believe they can sign in England) to lure one of our youth talents in the defense to their side.

There was a chance at isco leaving madrid prior to the last few months but he's now solidified his place in the Real Madrid team and he's not going anywhere really lol.

And yeah I read about that 16 year old , gorka more I think his name was lol. Another poached kid to stash in the academy loooool. Hopefully there are senior targets lined up to help the defence and midfield though asap.

Can't blame 'em for trying but as **** as it was for our team, Modric's injury may have come at the perfect time in that sense. Isco's got significant backing at almost every level of management in our team so I'm not surprised he's attracted interest, but after CR7, Ramos, and Varane, I can't see a more unavailable player from our squad than Isco. Perhaps James is on the same level.

I would think, after a central defender, a proper 6 would be the next Arsenal target. Since we seem keen on bringing in a young player like Casemiro or Lucas Silva at that position and Sami hasn't re-signed, I could see him joining Arsenal over the summer. He's a big fan of Mourinho's but Chelsea are well covered. Khedira and Özil have been mates since 2010, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them link up again.

Also, we're apparently not too keen on paying up to make the Chicharito move permanent, so I assume we'll try to activate Morata's buyback or look for another cheap striker this summer. IDK what that does for United but with the way the Falcao move has gone for them, I'm sure it's not all that disappointing.

People on here were laughing at me for selecting Isco in the 5th round of our draft bro.

The dude is a stud.

Isco is a stud and too important to Madrid. He is the super sub that covers any injured midfield or attacking positions. Without him, Madrid's depth is too thin.

I think the Premier League is the wrong league for him.

A Bundesliga club like Leverkusen or Wolfsburg would be decent and then he could join a giant in the PL.

I guess it's tough for kids these days to accept that. They just want to go to the big club from the start.
