Then so be it. The fact that other teams would have overpaid this summer as well still doesn't make it a great deal.

Brown really had Ainge over the coals after he held him out of the Kawhi, PG and AD trade talks.

The Celtics are now paying Hayward, Kemba and Brown 95 million of a (for now) 116 million dollar cap. But could be even less of the China financial hit causes BRI to go down.

They desperately need Brown and Tatum to get a lot better and become franchise players...or wow.

I bet even Jaylen himself doesn't know how he got this much.

But the team believes in him and doesn't want to trade him. This is the first rookie extension they've agreed to in 10 years. He's 22 years old, a hard worker, good on both ends, and already a proven playoff performer.

hayward could opt out but i doubt he does. then you have the tatum extension next summer too. so for the 21/22 season, they'll have 100+ mil allocated to brown + tatum + kemba. bit of a roster imbalance since they don't have a 4/5.

That was with no Kyrie Irving. How is he suppose to produce to this level when he will be playing with 4 other starters that want the ball to make a impact? Even if Hayward is shipped away that’s still a lot for a third option player

For me:

Buddy was a steal. Sabonis was market. Brown was overpaid.

I don't see him as better than either Buddy or Sabonis. IDK, this is just such a chunk of change for a guy that may not even max as a teams 3rd offensive option.

In fact there is argument to be made that Boston is paying nearly 62M this year for two guys that are not good enough to be a 3rd offensive option on a truly good team.

Someone will inevitably jump off a bridge next summer too. That doesn't mean you rush to beat them to the plunge. Max-type money for a guy who took a step back last season, and averaged 13.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 25.9 minutes per game is ridiculous. If he doesn't step it up quick, this contract will be viewed in the same realm as Wiggins and Wall.

What? lol Kemba just signed there as a FA. Hayword has been a disappointment but was still a sought-after FA who chose Boston in 2017. Horford left ATL to sign with Bostin in 2016.....that's 3 top FA from their FA class in the past 4 years...

 At any NY fan saying that "Stars dont wanna play in Boston"

Kemba and Hayward. Lmao

Maxing B Level free agents to 4 year deals is the small market approach. Wheres the lie?

Ainge has only extended rookie Rondo in the past so he must have a lot of confidence in Jaylen, especially to sign him to a near max (90%). Solid players like Avery Bradley, who was better than Jaylen is now, Olynyk, and even Smart weren't extended. I trust Ainge and this won't cripple the franchise going forward. Others don't believe in Jaylen because they look at the raw numbers, but I see he has a lot of great tools and has potential for stardom

Doesn’t seem like such an enviable position, especially for a GM so many called a “genius”.

I think this cements the fact that Ainge truly does need to land another star with that Memphis pick, Hayward Contract and other assets. He needs to give the team another out, more so than just hoping those young players develop to be franchise guys. The pressure is on him.

Massive overpay and now is teetering on being a negative contract.

I was under the impression Danny Ainge was some masterful contract negotiator...no bueno.

It's not just that. You look at his stats, and he's even below average. 13.5 PER last season, -1.5 OBPM, -0.6 DBPM, 0 VORP.
He's not a good shooter (not bad, but still, not good either),34% 3PT, 46%FG, 65% FT, and he isn't even a good playmaker, or go to guy. One of the worst contracts in the NBA right now.

Needs to make major strides to be worth that kind of coin. What else can be said?
