SOURCE: Carmelo Anthony expected to reach a verbal agreement with the Knicks as early as tomorrow. The deal will be for the max.
2:49 PM - 6 Jul 2014

The only way the verbal agreement won't happen is if LeBron and him decide to team up somewhere. However that's unlikely to happen.

Syracuse based. Def not full proof but shouldn't be dismissed.

His source could very well be Jim Boehiem

Why do people say the super max.

It's just the max.

HIS max.

Because HIS max is more than the regular max because of his All-Star selections, etc.

Guys, check out the author page for DYST now.

The bulk of their writers are community college students. The owner of the website is a senior. Not very credible IMO. One of their writers does seem to have a little credibility, but his specialty is soccer.

Melo said he was willing to take less. Phil was supposed to leave it there. It was not Phil's place to harp on it especially since we all know Melo's market says he is in fact a max player. That is where I will forever stand on that issue. Phil played that card wrong.

I dont see any team moving heaven and earth to offer a max, so no....that isnt his value.

Plus the CBA dictates melo's max...not market, unless another team can offer 129 mil....thats isnt his "market".

The team he was rumored to be signed, sealed, delivered with to the point of asking about the coach and how it is to have a celebrity life there offered him a starting salary of 15 mil.....

Melo is worth max only from a business standpoint, a tool to sell more tickets and merchandise at higher prices, because for the most part basketball fans go goo goo gaga over individuals over the actual teams they play for.

Phil's mistake imo should have been to offer a number he truly feels he can work with to effectively build the team he visions, which would have been in line with everything he has said.

Then if comes to max...so be it.

Teams aren't moving heaven and earth because they know that it is very unlikely that Melo will sign with them in the first place. If Melo committed 100% to a team they would do everything in their power to make room

The CBA doesn't dictate Melo's value. Melo's true value is probably over the max, but the amount of money he can receive is limited the CBA. Lakers offered him the much they could and probably would have offered him more if they could.

Also how do you know Phil made a mistake and that he believes that he can actually build a team with Melo making the max?

Not really surprising that Melo is considering the Lakers. This is the same guy who was dumb enough to leave a contender to team up with Stat.

I'm specifically talking about the teams he's interested in and actually have heard presentations from. the second point really no one knows, speculation at best.

I said "market". Market is irrelevant. The price a team is willing and/or can pay is CBA influenced and has 100% determined that. 129 mil isnt Melo's market...the CBA ensured that.

David Blaine wrote:Also how do you know Phil made a mistake and that he believes that he can actually build a team with Melo making the max?

Offering the max contradicts the majority of what Phil has said from team building standpoint.

So let me get this right, the same guy who has said time and time again the "Winning" is the mist important thing at this stage in his career and that he would leave money at Dolans door so the team can do what it has to do to get a xhip is going to make more then Lebron lol. Phil dopped the ball again just like he dropped it by giving a guy who has never coached a game in his life 5 years 25 million as of right now the only good thing he has done was get eid of Felton

Being on the forums checking for news is like whirling around a blackhole at high velocity and experiencing time dilation. What is a week to Melo feels like 2 months to us.

Either SAS doesn't know anything or the news doesn't break until tomorrow. I doubt he has no clue what's going on so I'm assuming that means no news until tomorrow at the earliest otherwise SAS wouldn't be imposing a FA ban on himself right now.

Melo already played the Knicks in 2011 by using the Nets/CBA as leverage to get his money. I dont see why this is any different with the Lakers/Bulls.

If Melo doesnt want his money and just wants to win he'd go to Chicago. Simple. It's not like if he waits around here for Marc Gasol he'd be any better off than if he was with Joakim Noah. Bulls already have their team together. There are no IFs like there is with us. With or without Rose returning to moderate health they can just bring in another Augustin or Nate. Thibs is a magician.

This is a tough decision I can imagine. I'm sure he's got many different feelings rummaging up in that noggin of his.

1. Will I leave my "hometown" team, who gutted their roster for me, for nothing?
2. How much of a paycut do I really want to take to "win"?
3. Are the Bulls as constructed with me a championship team? Will Rose ever be healthy?
4. Can the Knicks actually build a winner in the next 2 years? I'll be a God if I win in NY.
5. Do I really want to leave Phil Jackson? If you want a ring he's the guy to be around.
6. Is all I care about money? Am I fat?

Hard questions indeed.
