They would get up to 25M in cap space with moves like that and be able to sign or trade for the starting 3 they need.
LeVerts value is tough to calculate (especially given his recent play);
Ultimately he is an injury prone volume shooter BUT he need some offense off the bench and we need to add some salary to next seasons payroll to assure we have the ability to use the MLE and sign our FRP but have bigger expirings that we can move if need be.
Assuming Boucher is not retained (or not for the same salary) even having LeVert on the books should allow us to do all the things we need to by way of the MLE and still stay under the tax.
Its not ideal, I would sooner take on a similar contract with some compensation along with it for taking on next years salary for player X but if its the best that can be done, I don't hate it.
I just don't think teams are going to give up a first for cap space or relief with so little free agent talent out there. Contracts are so short now that the list of overpaid players is too small.
But yeah, I could see us trading Boucher for an expiring and a 2nd rounder then moving that 2nd rounder with Dragic for Levert. Keeps open the possibility of a trade next year and gives us a bench scorer.
Basically, we need 2 more rotation players. A perimeter playmaker/scorer and a starting center. We have draft picks to either try to select one or use in a trade for one. The only guy I could really see us using a first on in a trade and going for is DeAaron Fox. Or maybe we don't give up a first and take on a big deal like if we did Dragic, Birch and Boucher for CJ McCollum so Portland can save 30M a year and recalibrate things.
