Odds are good that he won't play at all in the season we are about to complete and IMO odds are good that if he does make it back he will have recurring problems for whatever is left of his career. Dude does have a history...
One thing I will assume... Both Houston's GM and skorf figured him to be a huge health risk/question mark or he would not have opted in and then get traded for basically RJ. If it was assumed Yao would be healthy skorf would have recieved a slew of vetoes for that deal.
When it comes time for voting it will be after a season where Yao was out. Right now the notsonics have $30 mil tied up in Cs that have had or have foot problems/injury issues. That is kind of scary.
I hope Yao does make it back eventually, Big Z did so...
He was injured this season(in the game). Next season is when the judging will be taking place, Yao will probably be healthy after 2 offseasons and a full seasons time. I understand he would still be looked at as injury prone, but assuming he won't play at all is ridiculous. Another thing is, with my team, Yao won't have to be the guy. I think taking that element away from him will decrease his chances of getting injured.
