He's definitely off to a great start, but 2 games isn't enough for me to hand over a major extension just yet.

Face it, dude was probably going to be a main target of Petrie this summer anyway, now, he's a restricted free agent so let him go out and see if there is a team willing to play him more than the MLE. Pretty sure he'll be back.

I think we all still need to see how well he fits when Tyreke comes back. In theory, Thornton's shooting ability is the perfect fit next to Evans. However, and I'm not sure if anybody's taken the time to pay attention to this, he needs to have the ball in his hands to create his shot. He dribbles a lot. Likewise, Tyreke needs the ball in HIS hands a lot to be effective as well. He dribbles a lot too. Can these two ball dominant players coexist together? Thornton can shoot the lights out. Will Tyreke recognize this and feed him when he's hot, or will he attempt to regain control of "his team" and be the main guy again? And if the latter should occur, would Thornton be content to play second fiddle to Evans after clearly proving himself to be a potential top scorer for this team? Essentially, he's the new Kevin Martin role.

Just something to think about. I mean yeah, of course i'd like to resign him if he keeps up this level of production. I just hope it can actually work out. But then again, I also hope we don't get outbid for him if he does continue producing. Hopefully nobody else is paying attention to him because nobody watches our games.

What do you wanna bet Thorntons numbers totally go to crap once Tyreke comes back?

I think both Thornton & Tyreke will mesh well imo. If so, Petrie HAVE to lock Thornton into a long term deal.

I don't know if numbers are the important thing, more so the fact that if needed he can produce them. He's shown decent off the ball movement and spot shooting ability. Basically I see him as filling Beno's role on the team and in terms of shooting/scoring he'll be a major upgrade. Maybe even defensively too, we'll see.

Hopefully, that would be a huge positive if they do mesh. You know who Thornton reminds me of? Somebody Kings fans would give their left nut for, Eric Gordon. Probably can't jump as high but his calm demeanor and quick scoring punch really is similar. Both have similar builds as well.

As someone who has watched every game that Thornton has played over the last 2 seasons, I guarantee you that he can be very effective playing off of the ball. He is excellent moving without the ball and can knock down the weakside 3. His usage rate is so high because he was playing the majority of his minutes with Jarret Jack, Willie Green, Jason Smith, and DJ Mbenga. If he didn't have the ball in his hands, we were just as likely to have a shot clock violation as to score.

His issues in New Orleans had nothing to do with on court production. In fact, the Hornets were 13-1 in games that he played at least 23 minutes. And he very effectively played 3rd banana to West and Paul.

What were his issues then?

Defense. Monty Williams benched him due to his perceived lack of defensive tenacity.

How well Tyreke and Thornton play together is in some ways not the biggest factor. Thornton, because of his defense and other concerns is going to be much better off the bench then in the starting lineup (more Bobby Jackson then Mike Bibby). He is also extreamly streaky, which also plays much better off the bench then in the starting lineup.

In that scenario, you really aren't asking them to play together that much, and when they do, you can use that to rest them and rotate (basically what miami does with wade and James).

Tyreke: 36 min a game
Thornton: 24 min a game.

Means that they are in the game at the same time 12 min of the game, and means you have a primary gaurd in the offense for the entire game, which is something we did not have earlier.

Different scenario then Martin, who needed to start and needed to play more minutes.

I can see that. Last night he didn't come close to guarding anybody. He also looks like a pure 2.

We'll see how he fits with Tyreke. I'm more skeptical than the rest of you guys, as I think Tyreke needs a real PG next to him. It doesn't really work to have two guys whose first instinct to score in your backcourt--hence why Tyreke/Kevin probably wasn't going to work. I do think Thornton can be a great 6th man though.

everyone was high on Landry in the first season.. and in second season he became the prime trade target..!!

it will be at least 40-50 games before we can say Thorton is in Kings long term plan..

Landry became a prime trade target because of Cousins. Thornton should be able to play alongside our two best players and fills way more needs for this team than Landry did.

I was high on Landry his first season and for good reason, he satisfied a major role as that inside #2 scorer on the team. Then all of a sudden some kid named Demarcus Cousins fell into the Kings' lap making him far less needed and not a real good fit moving forward. Traded up a nice Benz for a Bentley.
