Love you man!

When I was a kid watching him play on those great ABA teams the Pacers put together, Mel was the rock in the middle, he was a great leader and one great player!!

So glad he got to be present for his induction to the HOF. What a great guy.

People who didn't follow the ABA have no idea how great he was. Sad to hear the news.

Those ABA days were before my time, but I would have loved to witness him play in person. RIP.

my dad grew up in indiana and absolutely loved the ABA. Daniels and George Mcginnis were his favorite players. It's a shame it took him so long to get into the hall of fame because only now are players in that league getting some respect. Can't believe i didnt hear about this death til today. RIP Mel

A lot of NBA fans think the ABA was a "Minor" league but it wasn't. The ABA had some of the most dynamic and talented player of the time. Dr J, Mel, Roger Brown, Dan Issel, Artis Gilmore, George Gervin, James Silas, Louie Dampier, George McGinnis, Marvin Barnes, Spencer Haywood, Rick Barry, Moses Malone, and a bunch of greats that I'm sure I left out.

I heard that big Mel had a dream last week. Fellow Pacer Roger Brown who died several years ago was in the dream and told Mel, "I have some news for you Mel, good news and bad news, which do you want first?" Mel Said, "Give me the good news first." So Roger said, "There's Basketball in Heaven." Mel said "That's great!! What's the bad news?" Roger replied, "Mel you're starting at Center on Saturday night."

That's good IDK how old you are but I'm 53 so I grew up watching the Pacers and have a great amount of respect for those days.

you're my dads age. and i do agree that the league should be held in more esteem than it is. the last couple years of the league imo were definitely on par w/the nba.
