How high of a pick would you want in this draft for Reggie Jackson?
If a team were looking to acquire him with a single pick in this draft, what's the lowest pick you'd settle for?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

In this draft probably a top 3, basically the only guys I would trade him for are Ingram, Simmons, Dunn. I can't see anyone out of the top 2 that I would for sure gamble on for him.

I said 3-4. We know what we are getting with RJ. Draft picks, you never know how they will transition to the NBA.

Not really high on anybody outside of Ingram at the moment.

I would prefer a point guard who consistently plays defense. I hope we draft Payton (or someone like him)--not that Payton would be a starter or an RJ replacement. I'm just sick of seeing RJ suck on defense. It's a shame. Maybe he will step up his defense as the team gets better?

1 through 6? That'd probably be my range.
RJ is good, but he's not a superstar especially with how stacked the PG position is. Some of those kids that fall around that range might have a chance with them all playing different positions.

Kris Dunn is probably the 3rd best player in this draft and a lot people say his ceiling is Jackson. So in this particular draft I think it would be a waste of a gamble to trade Reggie who still just 25 and locked up for a chance on a prospect.

None unless we're somehow getting another vet PG who is just as good too. Now isn't the time to be trading primary players for picks and starting over again. We should be trading our picks + secondary players for another primary player to go with Reggie and Drummond, if anything.

I don't love Reggie. He's a good PG that has a metric ton of room to improve.
But, there isn't anyone in this draft I would trade him for if the objective is to improve over last season.

Re: How high of a pick would you want in this draft for Reggie Jackson?
I'd definitely take a top 6 (we'd never get top 2) pick IF...
I knew we could sign a starting quality FA or get a good one (same category as Reggie) in a trade without overpaying. Jeff Teague, for example, is definitely available for the right offer.
I'm not saying Teague is better than Reggie, but he's cheaper, and his strengths might (again, *might*) be more in line with what we need. Also, the difference in salaries could land us more in FA.
Again, these aren't assurances you're going to have, so it's not a deal you can really make, but that's my scenario. I like Reggie but don't love him. His defense is a real problem. I'm still hoping some additional ball-handling to take the load off and some more time with SVG can boost his defense up to acceptable.

Just No!
Not trading a still improving 25 year old who is locked into a pretty reasonable contract for a CHANCE at grabbing a prospect that you hope one day becomes a still improving 25 year old who is locked into a pretty reasonable contract

Teague and Conley come to mind too.
I severely doubt we get any offers for RJ (probably at a neutral value), but if it does come and we also somehow luck our way into getting a seat with Conley or Teague, I wouldn't take it away.

Defense is mostly effort. Certainly there are players with higher defensive IQ than others but if the effort is 100% the defense will be serviceable. SVG just needs to crack the whip on RJ which, now that RJ has had a full season with this team to get comfortable, I expect will happen.

For the record, he's 26, not 25.

If we could be contenders in the Conley sweep stakes,ID consider it,thing is,Conley is about to pull the max and will be getting more than Jackson's 80 mil.
I hate to agree with mano, but he's right,Jackson has the speed and length, only thing stopping him is effort.

RJ has crazy good potential and in this draft, no one outside the top 2 is worth him imo.

Besides the top 2 no one is a sure thing so nothing below 2.
