LAL/CLE Lakers go for Garland/Allen, Cavs even out roster

Post#1 » by eitanr » Fri Jul 19, 2024 9:20 pm

Darius Garland, Jarret Allen
FOR
Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimara, D. Russell

Why for CLE:
Garland was rumored to be available in order to even out the rotation and handle usage duties to Mitchell. The backcourt tandem did not have great success and Reaves could make more sense as a complimentary guard to Spider. Vincent/Russell can also duel it out for needed backup PG duties to a team that clearly misses Rubio.

Without Allen, the Cavs would rely on Mobley who is more suitable to play the 5. They now open up their front court slots to a deep rotation of spacing bigs in Rui to go along with Wade and Niang. This may be the better route around Mitchell. Finally, adding both Vincent and Russell may be overkill, but one can be that backup PG and the other is tradeable as an expiring deal.

PF R. Hachimura/ D. Wade
SF M. Straus/ C. Lavert
C E. Mobley/ G. Nnang
SG A. Reaves/ G. Vincent
PG D. Mitchell/ D. Russell

Why for LAL:
Garland can be a nice young passing of the torch PG and may be a better usage talent needed with the sunsetting of James and Davis. Allen is a much needed center presence, allowing Davis to move to the 4. The Lakers get bigger, get a nice future talent to run the offense and consolidate their rotation a bit while ensuring more min for backup youth in Hood Schifino and Chrsitie to emerge.

PF A. Davis / J. Vanderbilt
SF L. James/ C. Reddish
C J. Allen/ C. Castleton
SG D. Knecht/ M. Christie
PG D. Garland/ J. Hood-Schifino

This doesn’t seem close. The Lakers are stealing a ton of value,

This is several FRP light. No reason for CLE to consider this.

Cleveland counters with Garland and Allen for Davis and Vincent.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Yeah this is not close at all for Cleveland. This package doesn't get you Allen or Garland, let alone both.

Anytime you can trade two all stars in their prime for a nuetral value package full of role players, you have to jump on it.

One of the worst trade proposals I have ever seen.

Crazy fact: Russell may have had a better year than Garland last year and makes half as much money. He's also a former all-star in his age 22 season, for the Cavs' current coach!

I might do Russell/Rui/Reaves for Garland if Garland asked out, but that's a mid-season deal. Garland isn't going anywhere before we see what Atkinson does with him.

I assumed this would be Garland and assets for Davis. As-is, pretty terrible for Cleveland. Also, I don't understand the Garland hate, does no one realize he was recovering from injury last year? He's really good...

That all star season was six years ago and since then Russell has been on three playoff teams none of whom have enjoyed much success with him.

Have you ever seen a trade where the two best players in the deal go to another team without quality picks involved?
This is a terrible attempt. Try harder and come back with a more balanced proposal.
