Why for Lakers? Joe Smith is a solid veteran big man, and he could play next to either Gasol or Bynum. His 5 mil comes off the books after next season. Nocioni is another very good SF/PF, who can start or make the ideal 6th man. Very good slasher, 3pt shooter and is a master at "flopping"/taking a charge. Chris Duhon is an expiring contract but is a solid backup, pure PG with solid D.
Why for Bulls? Maybe John Paxson learns his lesson this time around, and will figure out how to use an expiring contract (failed to do so with PJ Brown last year) in a trade to improve the team. Bulls missed out on Gasol this year, but next year another firesale could very well happen, and its best to be prepared for that situation, to help that team with cap relief. Odom expires after next season.
