New GM a Team Sim Possibility

Post#1 » by JordanL » Thu Apr 9, 2009 7:11 am

Hey all, I'm new a newcomer this time.

I noticed that the options for simming the season basically equated to waiting until 2k10 came out, then adjusting rosters. If we were planning on waiting a few months to sim the season, I would like to offer an alternative.

I'm a programmer. It's what I do for a living. I'd be willing to make an online simulator for us to use to sim the season using whatever specifications we all agreed on. It could be as simple or as complex as we want, bounded only by the amount of time it would take to develop.

We could just put in the players and teams and have it calculate averages, or we could include things like training camps, development, chemistry, coaching decisions (i.e. fast break, defense, sets, etc.) It could simply estimate average wins, or it could go through a season schedule and calculate the actual shot attempts and makes in each game. It could allow for player growth or it could be static.

Basically, I'm the programmer, and what we all decide we want, we can build. I'd open source the code, so that we can all be sure I'm not building in a "Spurs win" script or anything.

It's an option. We don't have to take it, but I thought I'd put it out there.

EDIT:

If you're interested, please build me a wishlist of features you'd like to see, and features you'd like to NOT see.

God I hate programming.

With that said, sure have at it. Then spend days debugging it and let us know how it turns out. :)

It sounds like a huge project, but if you're up for it, that would be fantastic!

If you can actualli input the rookies and readjust the teams, and give stats on how the teams are doing(amaizind if you can pull it off), here would be my suggestion to make the sim interesting.

1. Everyone posts their lineup with how many minutes each player would play
2. Sim the first 1/4 of the season and post stats and records
3. Teams readjust lineups and playing time off of stats provided
4. Sim the second 1/4 of the season and post halfway stats and standings, this would let people see were their teams stand
5. Allow a couple days for teams to make some trades and try and fix their teams
6. then sim the third 1/4 of the season and post stats and standings.
7. Allow a week of trade deadline moves for teams to dump expirings or good teams to improve
8. Then sim the rest of the season and then playoffs

^^^No, no, no...

This is NOT a sim league... the sim would ONLY be there to determine the draft order.

Aren't we using the standings to determine draft order this year? Or are you talking about 2010?

No, I'm saying it's fine to do the sim, but it should not be a lengthy process. Its ONLY purpose is to determine the draft order. That's it. That is NOT how it it determined who wins the game.

I never said it would determine the winner of the game. I know how this works. The guy was offering to design a program that would kick out stats and games foe everyone. I just said it would be cool if we make adjustments along the way (like in the NBA) and then teams see how the team they created actually does on the court. Then we can all adjust our teams (add pieces or tear it apart) before the 2010 draft and the much anticipated 2010 free agency.

I am interested in seeing how my team fares in '10 through sims, just to see how it's going so far, but most importantly we should get the draft order, which would require simming based on how good our teams are, which would require either 2k or a good sim program. The results of the 09-10 simmed season will have no bearing on final judgement.
