Rivaling Sid the Kid

The 18-year-old Bedard has five goals and one assist in his first three games at the World Championship. The Chicago Blackhawks center had four shots on goal and played 16 minutes on Tuesday's wild contest at the Prague Arena.

Bedard, who led NHL rookies in goals (22) and points (61) in 2023-24, is on a pace at the Worlds that rivals another Canadian star, Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby.

Thats very good trade for Blackhawks. It now suddenly opened possiblity to get really good player at #18. Instead just hoping someone falls to #20. Everyone needs to remember that hockey is not basketball and assets (picks) the lower they are there is a lot higher chance not to make it in NHL.

Only top picks really make it to NHL and play immediatly in rookie year. Let alone have succesful career as 2nd or 3rd round picks after multiple years of getting ready to play there.

Love both picks so far, one things certain the Hawks look like they understand how to rebuild! So many young cornerstone pieces in the organization, lets watch them all click in the next year or 2!

Six of one, half a dozen of another. Can not go wrong with either, imo.

Terrible draft for Hawks. Dont like either draft picks. And this draft for me in C-.

If Levshunov wasnt right handed he wouldnt be even considered going top 3 or even best defensmen. And I simply dont like way Hawks decided to approach this draft. Prior draft you trading up from #20 to #18. And you select guy who would still be available at #20? What are you doing...

I feel there is too much of AKME in Hawks organization. I feel sad for Bedard.

The draft recaps I've read don't like what the Hawks did, but the draft recaps hated Jaylen Brown and thought that pick was insane, and he's finals MVP, so maybe we can see what happens

I don't mind passing on Demidov because he skates awkwardly and already has a knee injury, not to mention the uncertainty of Russia in general.

I'm not really a hockey guy but apparently right handed defenseman are at a premium right now and Lev's college performance stacks up well with currently successful defenseman, so let's hope he becomes a top line starter for Bedard's entire career.

Well yeah. I hope I am wrong but Hawks took very safe route. And this is not moment or time to draft safe or drafting for need. And the moment franchises start to draft like this in top, it means nothing good gonna come out eventually out of it.

I am pretty sure there gonna be players below Levshunov who are picked and gonna end up being better defenseman or better players like forwards than him. Unless Hawks GM sees something what nobody else sees.

Wish kid good luck. Wish him all the best. If you trust Hawks scouts to know what they doing, I guess good. I don't. He was/is not consensus #2.

Not to say they made the right picks, but give it 2-3 years and see. Sometimes the safe route is also the highest end talent route too and the upside route stinks.

It's simply way to early to know how an 18yr prospect develops over the next 2-3 years. Consensus suggested Demidov was very likely the best offensive talent after Celebrini, yet two other offensive players were taken before Demidov, who fell to #5. :dontknow:

Yea they just carry on the Chicago tradition of terrible management. Way too much overthinking there. Just take Demidov, the logical pick. This is like when Pax got cute and took Tyrus over Aldridge

100% disagree. #1 defenseman was higher priority than a one way winger like Demidov.

I really like the Hawks draft especially the 3rd round picks. We'll see by 2029 if Davidson made the right calls but right now, I am pleased with Davidson draft.

According to Scott Wheeler's predraft analysis of all the prospects, he had Mustard and Spellacy as the top 2 skaters in the whole draft; also had Pridham and Levshunov listed as honorable mentions. Blackhawks definitely have a 'type' they like. They'll just add to the speed and skating of Moore, Nazar and Lardis.
