The number of 3s will go down if this is a completely legal way to defend a shooter on the arc:

That might be too many steps back to the 90s, but there is probably some middle ground between then and now.

I'm not one of those guys who moans about how bad the modern game is. I will say, though, that sometimes the 3 point shot has me less than pleased. Last night, Jay Vincent comes down and opens the Lakers - Mavs game with a 3. Then another. Then another. Then another. Then another. Then another, but the Mavs defender was so frustrated that he fouled Vincent. That made 18 points in 5 1/2 minutes, all solo.

Kinda boring, in truth. There was no strategy but let fly and no real defense that the Mavs could offer, except hope that eventually Vincent would miss. Which eventually he started to do, and then instead of boring made shots we had boring missed shots.

It's not true that the 3 point shot has completely taken over the game, as OKC did fine last season while not being especially tied to 3 point shooting, but there are a lot of stretches these days that resemble how the Lakers game began -- times when nothing really matters except whether the long shots fall.

1) Remove the corner three.
2) Allow defenders to be more physical on the perimeter.
3) Cut down severely on moving picks.
4) Stop calling fouls where shooters are solely trying to draw fouls (they've done a decent job cutting down on this but it should be emphasized more).
5) Award two free throws when a shooter is fouled beyond the three point line (except in the last 2 minutes).

Do all these things and the game will drastically improve, guaranteed.

Unfortunately, most of humanity can't do math so having a decimal point in the score would break everyone's brains.

That would just be really awkward. "Whats the score? Bulls are down 112.5 to 110.5 with 15.5 seconds left, they're gonna need a two and a half pointer to win it! Give it to Coby, he's shooting 40.5% from beyond the two and a half point line!"

I'm cackling at just the thought of it

True and agreed, but you could do 4s and 5s. Even higher scores would probably make the sport more popular lol.
Scores with fractions makes me think of blernsball
