I'm not seeing it that way at all. I'm seeing it as if Rose has let himself/team down and maybe he feels he doesn't deserve to be in the meeting.

If that's the case then he is probably the most mentally weak player in the NBA. If he has any sort of leadership abilities, he would be in that meeting. He knows how important he is to this team and therefore to any prospective free agents.

If he feels like he doesn't deserve to be in a meeting like this, then he should likewise feel he doesn't deserve his ridiculous salary the bulls have paid him the past couple of years (which he can partially earn if he shows up in meetings like these). If that's the case, for his sake, he should pay it all back.

41.7 + 3.5M in cap holds ~= 45, meaning 18 million available, assuming Boozer is amnestied Jimmy (2.1) is "dumped" for a future first, and Snell (1.4), Randolph (1.8) and Smith (.95) are also dumped for no salary in return (maybe for Jimmy's future first or the Sacto pick).

Which means even not moving Taj, the Bulls could clear significant salary and just have to fill out the roster with minimum guys. Not ideal, but doable.

I don't think we can be certain that Melo understands all these intricacies of the cap.

It's fully possible, if not even likely, that despite his puffy comments about a paycut, which could be well meaning even, he was thinking he would come in to these teams and be shown that Houston, Chicago whoever, were going to be ready to give him at least something close, 18 or 20m a year, which is not too painfully off NY, aside the last year.

He could be gobsmacked, even insulted, that the Bulls pitch is simply 15 odd something and look at our try hard cast.

He's got an agent he makes millions for..

Trust me, he knows the cap..

The only explanation that makes any sense in this situation is that the Bulls and Knicks already have an S&T worked out. Otherwise, it would appear to be a huge blunder by the Bulls.

I wouldn't exactly call our front office infallible. That being said, NY appears to want him back and I doubt they'd undercut themselves by letting the Bulls know so early they'd take a sign and trade.

We'll see how this all plays out but if Melo doesn't pick Chicago, and it turns out that Rose's "smug" demeanor played a role in his decision, the real fans will be calling for his departure.

Rose is in a weird situation but I'm feeling more and more discontent with his stance on recruiting. Like, we get it man, it's not your thing. But guess what? Maybe the fans want a team that is actually worth watching every other night. And being that you haven't been on the court in two years, another player of your caliber would actually bring Bulls fans some joy in following the team.

It just seems like he's making his decisions in a vacuum with no real consideration for basketball fans - who are the ones paying his salary.
