Chandler would make a lot more sense for the Nuggets if they could move Harrington.

I wonder if they are going to try to package Harrington and Nene to Houston for Ming's contract and a couple firsts, or something, although it would leave Denver tremendously thin in the frontcourt - I don't know that I'd do that.

And if I'm Houston (and I haven't been able to get Nash), my target would be Chris Kaman for relatively cheap - Shane Battier and Brad Miller would almost certainly do the trick. Risky - another injury plagued center - but when healthy he can play.

But if Denver could move Harrington, then Chandler could start at the 3, and in small lineups play the 4, with Gallo in reserve and with Afflalo resigned at the 2. I wonder if Dallas would trade for Harrington - someone to legitimately back up 'Dirk. Or maybe Portland for Pryzbella to get more usable size?

Edit - even better idea for a Harrington trade if NY 'Melo trade goes down: Harrington to New Orleans for Marcus Banks. Pure salary dump. Banks' is expiring and does nothing. Harrington goes there and does ala what New Orleans was looking for from Jamison - some off the bench scoring at the 4, maybe some big 3. Denver gets cap space, keeps Nene.

sg: Afflalo, JR
sf: Chandler, Gallinari
pf: Martin, Anderson, Sh. Williams
cc: Nene, Anderson

New Jersey should be mad about two things:

1. Melo clearly doesn't want to play for them.
2. Denver has lead them on a string for half a season.

Denver's strategy worked. They got New York to propose fair value. Only question now is considering the Knicks deal is fair value, why hasn't Denver accepted and ended this?

NJ got used...
BUT...for all we know....maybe NJ did it on purpose.

Look at it like this.
The Nets know Melo wants NY....and not matter what they do...he will still shun them for NY.

So....some may call this collusion...some may not...

But...NJ...who declared themselves out if it....now jump back in when they know they have no real shot? Why? To give Denver leverage and help force the Knicks to over-pay. If Melo would have kept his mouth shut about the money....this would have never been an issue.

NJ's rewards for helping Denver? Watching NY have to gut the roster AND overpay (in salary) for Melo...while at the same time....working on a side deal with Denver (Murhp).

They still hope CA will meet with Jay-Z and Proky so he can go sign there or they are also asking for Mozgov/draft pick from NY.

NJN seems to indeed be messing with the Knicks offer.

Well you have to think, the deal could be done but we wouldnt know at this point because it would be in bad taste to announce such a huge trade on AS weekend. Especially with Melo starting for the West. So even if a deal is already done, we probably wont know until early next week.

Another layer in my whacky theory...

Not only is NJ in cahoots with Denver (allowing themselves to be used as leverage)...but Melo is helping.

Why in the world would Melo say he was worried about the CBA this late in the game? That gave ALL of the leverage back go Denver?

Why? They are all forcing NY's hand and not allowing the Knicks to wait until summer to get Melo for cheap.

Melo wants his cash...and he wants NY...that is how he gets it.
Denver gets a better deal out of it.
Denver "owes" NJ one...and they can work out a side deal for Murph in some way....thus helping NJ out while watching NY actually have to pay up for Melo.

NJ was never going to get Melo...but they can indeed help drive the price up....with Denver and Melo's help.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend...

I simply LOVE this stuff!

Leverage is key....and there is an ebb and flow to it.

I used to say to that Bosh had to be willing to give up his 6th year to get his 6th year. Toronto fans never understood that....atleast not up until the point when Bosh finally said he would sign for 5 years...and guess what? He got his 6th year.

Same for Melo...only it is location first (intead of money). If Melo wants NY....he has to be willing to give up NY (by taking more money someplace else). If NY honestly believes that Melo could end up someplace other than NY...they will up there offer.

I honestly believe the deal has already been done. There was a meeting with Melo and the the Knicks yesterday afternoon. Amare and Melo were the listed as assistant coaches for the rook/soph game. Most of the first half neither of them were on their respective benches. Then, they both show up 45 minutes late to the game at the same time. I think Amare sat in on the meeting, convinced Melo to come to NY and sign an extension (it has to be done that way with some circumvention or it is against the rules, technically- so they use a players friendship to work that out outside of the formal talks).

I predict the trade has already been agreed to and Melo will be announced a Knick on Monday. Walsh's comments yesterday also jive with this theory. I have a close friend pretty high level, in the media, a very close friend, who is in LA. He said that Dolan was visibly elated when he saw him last night. Also, during the rook/soph game, they had a shot of Melo and he was in a daydream in the middle of the action. Not even looking at the court or paying any attention, at all. He had a blissful look on his face.

This is all speculation and circumstantial. But, as Chuck says in the commercial. I may be wrong.... but I doubt it.

yeah.. I honestly think they are gonna suck for the rest of this year if this goes down, and then really be hamstrung.

And let me clarify what I meant in my last post. I think the Knicks and Melo came to an agreement... as in the Knicks said "Melo, we are going to do what it takes to make you a Knick this weekend, we have already exceeded our limit on what we wanted to give up, but we want you that bad". Then, Amare went off with him and got a verbal from him that he would indeed sign an extension for X amount. And you know the Knicks got Melo's word that he won't sign an ext with NJ, in case NJ tries to throw a monkey wrench into the plan in the eleventh hour.

Of course, this is assuming that Denver made their demands clear to the Knicks and they are willing to meet them. So now, unless Denver backs out or tries to squeeze them for more before signing on the dotted line, I think a deal is done. Melo gets his money before the new CBA, the Knicks get their man and Jay-Z and Prokhorov are on the outside looking in and start looking for another draw for their team. But, of course as Panthermark stated they still cost the Knicks A LOT in the process. And Melo and the Nugz probably indeed helped them so he could get his money NOW and not risk waiting til the summer. I love it.. the Nets, Nuggets, and Melo working together to screw the Knicks and all get what they want.

When the Nuggets extend Chandler and Gallo to a 5/50 contract will they wish they took Deng instead?

David Aldridge on NBATV says that CA still not willing to sign extension with NJ and that instead of Gallanari the Nuggets want Fields & MozGov.

Some sorry media bs going around (nothing new). But I trust DA.

This makes more sense to me (wanting Fields and Mozgov).

---------------------------------------

I don't know about all of this stuff about worrying about 'gutting' a team that is 2 games over .500.

The Knicks keep their best player and get the two best players in the trade. Not really gutting.

I'll be glad the Knick aren't Melo for 'free', and are losing a lot of depth, but the people worried about gutting the team - same question as for NJ - do you really think the Knicks are worse after this trade? I don't. If they have to trade Chandler and Fields both that's kind of big.

YUP....but it's just like last summer with the Three Myegos. The deal is probably already done and the players are probably different than what is being reported. All of these hacks and pundits, even DA, have to keep their name out there and "have a scoop". Their very livelihood depends on it. It doesn't matter if they are wrong like everyone, besides, surprisingly, Stephen A, were all full of ish. Aldridge was wrong as much as anyone last summer on free agency.

would denver think of dealing afflalo if they acquired fields?
