"But according to several reports Saturday, the idea of Anthony signing with the Bulls is just about running on fumes.

Bulls sources were mum on any Anthony talk, but they have taken notice of the reports coming out of New York that Anthony is expected to accept the Knicks’ five-year,
$129 million contract offer by Monday. According to the Daily News, the one stumbling block is that Anthony is holding out hope that good friend LeBron James can find the two a place where the money is good and they can run together...

If Anthony flips the switch on popular opinion and decides to sign with the Bulls as a free agent — especially because attempts at a sign-and-trade have been turned down — the rights to Mirotic would likely have to be shopped, especially if Mirotic’s days with Real Madrid have ended as badly as reported and the NBA is his only option.

The team also would look to move Mike Dunleavy and the $3 million he has coming, which could get the first year of the Anthony deal near the $14-$15 million range. That figure is nowhere near what the Knicks can do, but is all the Bulls can muster with Rose set to make $18.8 million during the 2014-15 season, Noah $12.2 million and Gibson $8 million..."

I have been a lurker on this forum for years, but I just wanted to pass along some info from my source in New York. Apparently Melo ordered a pizza delivered to his house today. My cousin works as a delivery boy there. They said he ordered deep dish ..... I think it was a celebration party he was throwing

Bluewaterheaven wrote:Hey guys. So I just want to give you a piece of info I just heard. Last year I interned at Steptoe Johnson, a very large global law firm. I still keep up with some people there. A few of the senior partners are season ticket holders, and also do a lot of work with InCapital, which is owned by Tom Rickett, the Cubs owner. Anyway, word is, in the office, Melo's attorney's are heading into Chicago tomorrow. That is all I got.

Vicino wrote:So I didn't want to be just another Rando with a Source, but my Father and I have relationships with two Sr. Partners at Seyfarth Shaw LLP HQ'd in Chicago: One of the partners called me earlier this afternoon (b/c he knows how closely I'm following the Melo situation) and the other partner confirmed via text that Carmelo's Attorneys will definitely be in Chicago by tomorrow mid-morning.

NOTE: I've been a heavy-lurker throughout this Melo process, and wanted to take a moment to thank you all for helping me through this roller coaster of a week. My process has been: 1) Read latest breaking story from (insert that hack ESPN/Yahoo "Insider") 2) Dial into 4-way conference-call with my Bro's to discuss the legitimacy/effect of said latest news 3) Come here to read through latest 8-10 pages of latest Melo Thread 4) Re-calibrate my thoughts on whether we land Melo.

Right now, I am very confident Melo will be a Bull.

You can, but why would we? We have more than enough salary fill to offer in a sign-and-trade to give Melo his max. Weh ave over $4 million in non-guaranteed contracts.

This is why I wanted a confidence poll added to each new Melo thread. I want to quantify how fickle our posters are.

Bulls sources were "mum." I'm not worried by that.

We've "taken notice" of all the pro-NY reports. I'm not worried by them seeing the reports, and I doubt they are either. After all, they're more plugged in than whatever story their reading is.

Still not worried. Everyone's gotta put out several stories a day it seems like...that was another fluff piece.

I'm not sure about that-- people have talked about Nazr as a possibility-- but I have no idea why the Knicks would participate in a S&T if Melo does indeed want their max money and can't get it elsewhere. Just keep him for NY. That seems like all but an inevitability, and to tell the truth I do not want him at that money and that duration, anyway. NY will be regretting it within 2-3 years.

Details please! I'm going on the assumption that Boozer is amnestied since Phil doesn't want him and it'll be difficult to find a 3rd team to help us.

I kind of think Cowley has been kept out of the loop. Has he reported on anything that's turned out to be true recently?

I don't think we need to give him the supermax, just something close to what the Lakers max is.

With Melo's "interest" in the Lakers rekindled, I feel really good about a S&T possibility to the Bulls.

RememberLu wrote:I don't even understand the mentality of some of the Knicks fans in their forum, they're acting like Melo would be an idiot to leave the Knicks.

Why do they have such a high opinion of their team, have they not been watching their games the past 4 years or do they just believe Phil and his 11 rings will just magically solve everything?

the latter

I know it borders on sacrilege to defame the great Zen-Master, but, wow, his role/impact seems tremendously overrated. Past accomplishments acknowledged, except N.Y. is a whole 'nother thing, Knicks don't exactly have the type of team right now that Phil is accustomed to, to say the least. And, he was the Coach in those scenarios. As GM, well, new role for him there too.

Now, he's made a questionable hire at Head Coach, a guy with ZERO experience, downgraded at Center from Chandler to Dalemebert, swapped Fatty Felton for Jose Calderon, 32 years old, 12ppg/4apg, meh. Draft picks? Some nothing to shout about late round stuff. So, in effect, Phil will sit at home games watching them maybe make the playoffs, maybe, while on the phone 24-7 trying to find dumping ground for some of the corpses.

I just don't see Phil turning anything around for a minimum of 2, more likely 3 years. Their cap-space is a paltry 3.something Million, that won't buy much, certainly not Gasol. And if they do re-sign Melo, they're again crippled salary-wise. I think Phil blew it by even taking the job. Basketball Hell, NYC.
